Default Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day!

A day when Canadians gather together to celebrate the enactment of a law most of us have never read: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/Const/page-1.html

Whereas the Provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick have expressed their Desire to be federally united into One Dominion under the Crown of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, with a Constitution similar in Principle to that of the United Kingdom:

And whereas such a Union would conduce to the Welfare of the Provinces and promote the Interests of the British Empire:

And whereas on the Establishment of the Union by Authority of Parliament it is expedient, not only that the Constitution of the Legislative Authority in the Dominion be provided for, but also that the Nature of the Executive Government therein be declared:

And whereas it is expedient that Provision be made for the eventual Admission into the Union of other Parts of British North America:

Be it therefore enacted and declared by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, as follows:
Such moving words, Nothing gets the heart beating fast like words such as "whereas", "conduce" and "expedient".

Ok, since you insist. Luckily I am but a short walk from a vendor.

For me, yes Happy Canada Day, my First One. I have not been in the UK for many years, but would, I think, be nervous of celebrating my patriotism in the UK, as it has been hijacked by various political causes that I don't espouse.

Here it felt happy. Kids wearing happy t-shirts, nasty fried things I had no desire to eat and lots of balloons and plastic give-a-ways. Naff, but pleasant!
It was also very inclusive. This didn't happen when my husband was a kid, I think ths is a pretty 'new' day (20 years or so) and a constant step in the right direction. Yeah for Canada

Welcome to the blandness of Canada. I've just got back from the neighbourhood party next door and have consumed exactly the same food as every previous year for the last twenty.

I have to admit though that the quality of the wine has gone up considerably ever since the owner of a Niagara Peninsula vineyard started attending.

So you didn't see the Golden Jubilee or the opening Olympic celebrations?

I spent Canada Day fighting with uncooperative baseboards in one of my bathrooms.

Nipples are fine, it's my knees that are knacked.

Most things are fine this morning, actually. I had another trip to the dentist
