Default Happy 5th of November.

My favourite holiday. None of that namby pamby kumbaya relgious bollocks that you get at Christmas and Easter. This is four hundred odd years of sausages and hot tomato soup. I miss a good Bonfire Night, watching the Guy's burn and letting off fireworks, all on a school night. My nan said some down her way had heard that some thugs from the EDL might try and make some sort of protest and spoil it. We don't need that bunch of bigots peddling their religious intolerance on a night of celebration for the kids.

I'll have to make do with some sparklers. Still, with enough booze they can become quite hazardous as well.

I know the plot was hatched in the basement of one of the churches flanking Putney Bridge, but not sure which end.

Bloody halloween, that and the kids these days are too lazy as they're stuck in at home playing their Nintendos instead out making a Guy.

I'm guessing you'll disagree with this, but for young kids, burning an effigy now seems a bit, gruesome. I think the civilised world has imperceptibly moved on a bit in the last few decades.

Somebody tell Lewes in East Sussex then. They always burn effigies (Bin Laden, Thatcher, Bush etc)

Remember, Remember the 5th of November. (Just don't put your 21st Century sensibilities on it)

Yeah, I obviously think too much on these things.

Where would one acquire fireworks? I'm used to seeing them advertised at newsagents everywhere (sorry, "licensed sellers") in the UK, but where do they have them in Canada? Really, I'd love a few sparklers.

Dollar stores have them, especially the Chinese ones in Chinatown.

we'll have the bonfire party this Saturday, just because a few friends have to come from Ottawa and wouldn't travel that far if it was a school night. We'll have the big fire and maybe some sparkles (no fireworks allowed here apart from Canada Day, New Years and Victoria Day) but we'll definitely have the guy!! Kids will be fine!
