Re: Haggis Hunting :-)

I'm scared that the Scots are going going to be after my blood but....having seen this thread last night, I made mashed potato, broccoli, gravy and....haggis- but it came out of a tin! I enjoyed it, this thread made me remember I had a tin, that I'd seen in a supermarket here. It was called Stahly Quality Foods Scottish Haggis, and I stuck it in the microwave for five minutes. It was quite frankly Delish, and my son hoovered it down. Thank you OP for the idea.

Tinned haggis is great if you add Drambuie and cream while heating it up!

By "heating it up" I assume you mean deep frying it?...It's just that I'm still looking for tips for the little do that we're having.

No I don't deep fry it ............I heat it gently in a large pan adding Drambuie gradually as I go.......... As much or as little Drambuie as u like...... I put a fair bit in as we like it boozy.......add double cream and keep stirring until piping hot.........I then fill individual little ashets and finish off under the grill so it is crispy on the top........serve with the usual neeps and tatties......or good as a starter with oatcakes! Enjoy

Oh yummie, I shall most definitely try that! This was my first outing with a tin of haggis, and I must say I was impressed. I shall ensure that I keep a tin in the cupboard in future for those odd nights when you need something quick and have zero inspiration. I love neeps and tatties (as I am typing tatties, the keyboard keeps trying to change the word to fatties, now there's a Freudian slip!).

Another quick question... If I was unable to get my hands on a bottle of Drambuie, would another traditional Scottish beverage such as Tennent's Super T, or even at a pinch, a splash of Buckfast suffice?

I actually preffer tinned haggis :o

They sell a haggis and stake mince pie in Asda and it's amazing! (yes, haggis mixed with mince) lol.

Another combo we do is haggis with chicken in white sauce, over rice.

....hungry now.

Slightly off topic as I'm not big on the Haggis but really I miss the scotch pies that bad that I had a go at making a batch . Looked a bit crap but actually tasted pretty good with some UK Heinz beans

Re: Haggis Hunting :-)

cheaped out and used beef mince - to do it with mutton I would have had to buy a mincer as well :)
