Re: Guns

Jelena Loncar was hit by a stray bullet just 800 yards from my building in the early hours of this morning. She worked in the bar in my courtyard. I can't find enough superlatives to describe her work as a bar tender or her personality in general. The City Place community is saddened and shocked.

My friend and I were discussing superficial bar tenders in this city on Sunday and her name came up as the most genuine and nicest.

Rest in peace Jelena you truly were cut down in your prime for no good reason what so ever.

Someone once proclaimed "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". An Uzi can deliver the user with up to 10 reactions per second. Setting an 8lb submachine gun to "fully automatic" and placing it in the hands of a small child is not really the wisest of ideas, then.

Oops

They will most likely tighten the rules for minors learning to use Automatic machine guns now.

Hard to come up with any reason why a 9 year old girl would need to shoot a machine gun but the instructor obviously should of been holding on. I echo Greenhill; who thought this would be a good idea?

I think we all know that the whole episode is a bit mental, but try telling that to any US gun toting citizen and they will just say that "this is the price of freedom" or something just as lame.

I would't trust a Canadian with a handgun and a CCW what with their passive aggressiveness. Its a cultural institution.

Has anyone watched the video of the Uzi incident?

Yes, it's on CNN. Shows up to just prior to the accident.
I would question the parental wisdom of someone who would allow a nine your old to use such a piece of kit. Indeed any gun at all.

Re: Guns

I just watched it on liveleak (the video stops just before the guy is shot).

It's literally "stand in this position", "take one shot" then "alright, full auto!".

And he was not in control of that weapon when he flipped the switch so it cost him his life.

Complaceny. They may think they are teaching people to have respect for guns, but in reality they are teaching them the opposite. Familiarity breeds...

As I have said before, there is no need for anyone, outside of military, to have access to automatic weapons. I cannot think of any credible reason why anyone would believe it appropriate to put such a weapon into the hands of someone so incapable of being able to control it.

Yes. And 2 lives were destroyed at that range.

When the children did scouts in Calgary the meetings were held at one of the shooting ranges from time to time. I think they used AK47s and Uzis there.
