Anyone ever seen these little green delights for sale over here?
Went into a Sobey's supermarket yesterday and had my hopes lifted when I saw gooseberries written up, only to come back down to earth when they were not gooseberries at all but physalis.
'We call them gooseberries over here' says some helpfull shopper, but when I googled gooseberries only the ones I know come up, then I find via Wiki that physalis are sometimes known as Cape Goosberries, its like callin a Kiwi fruit a gooseberry because they are sometimes known as Asian Gooseberries. AAAAgh
Could have done with a nice gooseberry tart or crumble with lashings of custard.

I haven't seen any.
It still seems weird paying for blackberries when I used to pick them for free from the Bristol-Bath cyclepath.

Not seen them here either! As for blackberries - there is an abundance of wild blackberries right near me

I've seen gooseberry jam but never gooseberries. Sad but true.

We had a gooseberry bush in our back garden for a while very prickly. Every year the same thing, every berry had a maggot in it. Apparently some tiny little fruit fly or something lays its eggs in the flowers.
Finally gave up, dug it up and threw it away.

One of my neighbours has a small holding and she trades with someone she knows for help on the farm and gooseberries and if I remember rightly they was red but definitely gooseberries cos I bought some

We've got them here, they sell them in Quality Foods and are $3.97 for a small punnet. We also have them on local strawberry farm where you can pick your own. Must be the mild climate here on the island
