Didn't the UK get through both world wars with coalition governments?

I'm not disputing the fact of coalition governments have existed..merely stating that it may set a precedent where opposition leaders will "find" a reason for a no-confidence motion.

why would they want to? Take the last Canadian government. Harper had a minority, didn't put anything too controversial on the agenda, the opposition parties were content not to rock the boat as they didn't think they would fare any better in a new election, and all was merry and bright.

This October's election, you'll recall, was called by Harper because he thought he could secure a majority, not because the opposition parties (who could have brought down the minority government with a no-confidence vote on any "found" reason at any time) chose to force the issue.

Harper's not very good at Canadian politics. He bet on a majority and lost. He bet on getting his financial proposals passed and lost. Is it time for the Conservatives to look for another leader and if so who are the candidates? I'd like Jason Kenney, of course, he's always good for some gobsmacking quotes.

i think Harper's decision not to immediatly introduce subsidies is spot on.

The enemy of the free market is government intervention..Adam Smith's invisible hand and all that.

The opposition is playing the exact card that escalated the whole economic crisis in the first place..specualtion. Let's drive up the fear factor so the loser's can get power. It is no way in the best interests of the country.

Martin would be okay. Better than any we've got now. Or the three that want Dion's job.

Maybe a red herring but people really believe that. And the conservatives are pushing it. So red herring or not, its an issue.
