Talking of classics, it is a shame that Prince and YouTube or, likely more correctly, Warner Bros and YouTube don't allow loads of his stuff on there. Forever in my life is my most favourise song.
Anyway, I like this one, I think her dad would be very proud:

I remember that single well.
The year before we left UK, we went to a concert at Kew Gardens, Jools Holland and his big band with Sam Brown.
Not quite the band as below
and then there's her dad

I think, for me, it captures the essence of Syd Barrett's genius as he slowly plunged into oblivion. I've always been more of a fan of Pink Floyd when it was headed up by Gilmour, so this cover feels like a tribute in a similar vein to "Wish you were here" (although a very, very different piece of music).
Like I mentioned though, it's definitely my favourite track by Barrett - Robyn Hitchcock could also do a pretty good cover of it too. Save it for a rainy day and give it another listen some time.

[QUOTE=Aberdeen_Loon;10492276]One of my favourite songs by a kickass Canadian band (whose singer unfortunately just announced he's leaving the band):
Well, my opinion only, they're not bad but a bit "MOR" for me... not a lot to differentiate them from lots of other American Rock bands....
While on the subject of Canadian artists, I heard this lady while driving back from deepest Quebec one night. It was an "indy" station, and at the time of night when they play 10 tracks straight (while they nip off for a beer?) and you never know who was playing. I took note of the frequency and the time, and did a google when I got home.... luckily they published a playlist. Most of her stuff is way too "Country" for me, but this one grabbed my heartstrings!

Back in 1997 or 98 myself and my now wife went to see 'The Four Seasons by Candlelight' in Poole, not long before we headed off to S. Ireland on our 'next big adventure'. This Albinoni piece was played by the orchestra who were dressed in period costume. One of the best evenings out we've ever had.

if so, grab an app called "Shazam" - it used to be free, but i think it might cost now. Basically when you hear a song you don't know, hold the phone to the speaker, press the shazam button and it will automatically match the song and give you all the details on it!
its honestly sheer brilliance, one of the best apps i've ever gotten...i even try to confuse it with really obscure reggae/dancehall songs and it always gets them!
anyway, i would post a video of what i'm currently listening to, but i've noticed you lot seem to be into the sort of music my grandad listens to, so i'll refrain from posting any of that "doof doof doof crap the younguns listen to"

Please do post some doof doof doof "crap"; this is a good music thread, unrestricted! My kids keep me up to date... this might be a bit tame for you but it certainly gets my feet tapping!:
