Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
We are going for a visit to the UK in the end of November. Our first visit since we moved here and mainly to show the new baby to the family
(Rosie born 7th Oct). Now I made a list what I "need" to bring back e.g tins of Roses and Quality Street, battenburg cake for the neighbour . What would you bring back that fits in a suitcase ???? |

Re: Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
Yorkshire tea bags, 1kg bottle of salad cream, latest England jersey, kids clothes from Primark & gillette razor blades 1/2 the price. I always do a quick price check of key purchases in Canada before I go home and then see if it's worth buying from the UK.

What are you allowed to take back, with regards to foodstuff?

I brought a large jar of proper pickled onions and a squeezable jar of marmite when I went to the UK earlier this year.

No. It does a pretty good job. Better than those little jars anyway you get here - they are very expensive and only seem to last 4 slices of toast:unsure:
My only problem with the jars is the shape; the last bits are difficult to get out |

Re: Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
Last trip I made this summer I brought back Robinsons squash, branston pickle, Bovril (squeezy cos it's lighter and every ounce counts!), M&S tubs of mini chocolate rolls, M&S jaffa cakes, Golden Syrup and Black Treacle for baking.
Agree with the other person who mentioned lingerie - did a quick pit stop in M&S got kitted out with loads and for a fraction of the price that I can find stuff here. Also Boots had an offer on selected shampoos, deodorants, shower gels etc for £1 a bottle. I think I bought about £15 worth, it was a great saving. Oh and facial wipes, just the Boots own brand which had a good 2 for 1 deal. Bargain. OH commented that his Gillette razor blades were cheaper in the UK too, so he got some of those. |

What would you bring back that fits in a suitcase ???? Encona West Indian Hot Pepper Sauce. Divine Fair Trade cocoa. Nurofen plus Loose tea. Ginger wine, which I can't find in Edmonton. I prefer Crabbies to Stones. Clothing. I buy almost all my clothing in the UK. Ditto bedlinen and towels Replacements for any breakages in my china. Bath Olivers |
Re: Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
I got back last night with the three things I always bring.
200 B&H A cold A nasty Visa bill Those of you talking about food should be aware that you must declare everything, even Toblerone. The worst that can happen is that it is taken away. If you don't declare it and then get hauled over in Customs, you'll get fined. Agriculture Canada are hot on food items and they patrol Customs with sniffer dogs. I was sniffed last night. |

I've forgotten what else I miss:rofl: |
Re: Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
Chocolate naturally, Wilkins Tiptree Marmalade, Colemans sausage caserole mix, bra's, kids clothes, paperback books.

Re: Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
Oh! Just thought, car parts will be brought back at Christmastime:blink::rofl: (Already purchased and waiting for pick up, more will probably (hopefully) added to the list unless anyone knows of a Anglia front end for sale for a good price in Canada?

Re: Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
We have a British shop in Kelowna which sells a good range of food - Walkers crisps, chocolate, T bags, biscuits ets. We have a new shop - Bulk Barn, which sells British chocolate too and Roses marmalade, mushy peas, Branston Pickle, Bisto and Birds custard powder!! Not bad prices either. When we (4 of us) went back to UK last year we took 2 empty bags and came back with about 20kg excess baggage between us, and got away with paying for 6 and stuffing the rest in our hand luggage!!

Re: Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
I notice lots of talk about bras, lingerie, knickers from the women but no mention of underwear from the blokes.....oh wait, isn't the rule not replace them till they have lots of holes.:rofl::p Does this mean the Canadian ones are ok and reasonable price or we are all wearing the same pairs we emigrated with :sneaky:

Re: Going to the UK, what would you bring back???
For those who miss M&S, they do actually ship stuff overseas when you buy online (clothes, not sure about food).
Also, most of the foods mentioned are fairly readily available in Canada nowadays in various stores. Mind you, I have been known to bring back a haggis or two and walk very quickly past the sniffer dogs at arrivals ... |
