A habs fan? The Habs are my default team but it will be tough for them to win a series against the caps.
I love to see caps fan upset.

Montreal only made it to the playoffs by making their last game go to overtime (against the Leafs), and it took massive performances by Halak to keep them in the first round. Your luck is going to run out somewhere, and I figure it'll be at the Mellon Arena in the 5th game. :fingerscrossed:

Hello Mr Crosby......

I'd love a Pens-Blackhawks final, with Hossa losing his third straight shot at Lord Stanley's Cup.

Fail. Les Habitants are renowned for their stick handling and checking . . . just look at the Montreal player take on his opponent in white.

That would be a good series. Any of the 4 teams left in the west could make it.

Wow! need I say more?? what a night last night and what a time to be a Montrealer. The City is alive with excitement.

Never did we see this coming. To have beaten the number 1 ranked team the Washington Capitals was good enough for most of us. To wipe out the Penguins was just bonus.

Now we have visions of bringing home the Cup and we just have to wait to see if we play the Bruins or the Flyers.. hopefully the Bruins .

It wasnt planned but most of us ditched our Nurses uniforms today and proudly sported our Habs Shirts to work. The patients loved it

Too bad about the riots though.. doesnt give this City a good name

They riot when they win, and they'd riot if they'd lost. Does anyone else see the problem?

The Montreal Canadiennes played very well (Halak was outstanding when he needed to be), but most of those rioting last night are not representitive of many Habs (or any other hockey team's) fans. A riot was going to happen last night, win or lose, and it'll likely be more of the same at the end of the next round as well.:thumbdown:

Tons of smashing hockey related riots in Montreal - I saw them all on The You Tube! It's a big Montreal secret: there are more hockey riots in Montreal than actual games. The drunk hids are mostly responsible though.

April 25th, 1849 ("burning of Parliament building riot")
August 3rd, 1952 ("1st Bordeaux Riot")
March 17th, 1955 ("Richard Riot")
February 12th, 1969 ("Sir George Williams Computer Riot")
September 7th, 1971 ("Blue Bonnets Riot")
July 18, 1972 ("Stones Riot")
September 27, 1976 ("Layal Riot")
September 1, 1977 ("Arro Gance")
April 20, 1979 ("Toronto-Montreal near riot")
September 1st, 1982 ("2nd Bordeaux Riot")
May 24th, 1986 ("Defeat of Flames Riot")
August 11th, 1992 ("Guns N' Roses riot")
June 9th, 1993.
May 18, 1996 ("Punk Riot")
December 19th, 1997 ("Tickle Me Elmo Riot")
September 9th, 2002 ("Netanyahu Riot")
October 15th, 2003 ("Exploited riot")
April 22nd, 2008.
12th May, 2010.

Thats funny. Every other team in Canada would love to be playing hockey
right now. Montreal is Canada's team this year. Whether we go all the way or not it has been a fantastic run, this year has been great to Montreal and made all the better by the Leafs finishing second last and donating a future Star to Boston.

I think jimf is right, continuing with iced hockey so late in the year that melting ice is a problem is just silly. I used to go and watch the Habs several times a season but, the year they lost in the final to the Flames, I caught the end of the deciding game from a pub patio after playing softball, I had a slight sunburn, "this is stupid, just milking the punters" I thought and lost interest.

When ice hockey gets discussed in the office, even the keen fans generally say there are too many matches and it goes on far too long nowdays. They say in the "old days" there were fewer play off rounds and they weren't all best of 7 series so it was all over by the time the summer sports started off. No doubt more teams and more matches means more money though.

That's the prime focus of the NHL these days it seems, especially considering the following.

The NHL is reluctant to change ban fighting, blindside hits or hits to the head until someone is seriously injured.

NHL games are shown at TV prime-time to maximise the TV revenue, which means fans are likely to stay home and pay a channel subscription for much less than the price of seeing it live.

With the salary cap, money-sharing, and no demotion to lower leagues for the bottom-placed team(s), there's no incentive for consistently poor teams to do well (including the Toronto Maple Laffs. In fact, there's more of an incentive for poor teams to do badly in order to get better draft picks for the following season.

As Jimmy Cricket says, "and there's more!"

Re: Go habs Go!

yes, this is so true and I must admit that as we head into the the middle of May, tennis and baseball are more on my list. If the Habs werent still around, I wouldnt bother watching the playoffs to be honest.

As for bringing in the money, that is very true. Sold out crowds at the Bell Centre on game night and bars with large screen Tv;s are turning away people to anyone who arrives after 5 30 ( the games at 7 FFS!) . Infact, most places arent even taking reservations anymore. Not to mention all the merchandise.. the Molson family must be laughing alll the way to the bank.

About 20 of us are heading to a local bar near work for the first home game on Thursday . As it is my day off , I have strict orders to be there by 4 to reserve a table until every one else shows up. With 3 hours to go until the game starts , I can imagine quite a lot of drinking will be had.... what else to do? LOL:o

The first game was a disaster and I would rather NOT talk about it.. hopefully we will come back tonight with vengeance

How did game 2 go for you? At least it wasn't 6-0 this time. :p:p

I'd like to see the Habs go through, as they did enought to be the Penguins, plus Philadelphia is to Pens fans what Ottawa is to Leafs fans.

Well the good news is they improved their defence by cutting the goals against to three.

The bad news is with no improvement in the scoring (i.e. none) it still results in a loss. ;)

Watch for a new goaltender in the next game, Halak looks like he's worn out.

After watching game two - and listening to the Quebec media hockey pundits- it appears that Montreal have smaller penises (Willydelphia, "City of Brotherly Love" , "The City that Loves you Back", and " The City of Big Nudgers"?).

Jacques Martin had better pull his finger out.

Why do they always have to be put against a wall to show us what they got in em? ??

Anyway, just got in from going out with a bunch of friends from work after the game. We were downtown and from what we saw everyone was in great spirits and there was no rioting to be seen.. lots of us beeping our horns on the streets. I had one friend in the passenger seat waving a giant Hab flag and another in the back frantically waving a smaller one. I was trying to weed my way through the crowds beeping my horn every few feet.My kids would have been hiding from me I am sure had they been there :o:rofl:

Yes, we are still in the game !

Too wired to sleep.. on vacation as of yesterday. Heading to Walt Disney World with the kids on Sunday .. will catch the games at the hotel hopefully
