Giving Blood?

Giving Blood?
I recently found out that I had o-negative blood, and being in demand I thought I trolley off to my local blood donor clinic to do the right thing.
Apparently, I’m ineligible to be a donor for spending more than 3 months in the UK between 1980 and 1996, due to the potential for being a carrier of CJD. Well, I told them I haven’t herd anything so udderly ridiculous but thought I butter not cause a scene. I asked if we cud come to a solution, as the steaks are pretty high but alas no. Very moody today. Anyone know of a way around it?
Anyways, I’m off to see if the sperm bank will take me. I feel bad for wiping civilizations of my stomach with a dirty gym stock during my early youth years.

It's all OK though, they let you have blood if you need it.

Mrs AX is still bitter about the fact that because she lived in the UK for five years, Canada doesn't want her filthy tainted blood. Me? I'm philosophical about it. As Fledermaus says, I can have pure Canadian blood should I need it. Eh?

Re: Giving Blood?
In the UK they told me not to bother coming back as they didn't have the staff resources to keep reviving me. In Canada they tell me not to bother turning up the first place.
I now have a clear conscience.

Ha ha, I used to go into shock too when I gave blood way back in my early 20s. I did ask if I could donate a 1/2 pint but they said no

I used to love giving blood - sick woman that I am - in fact I was a plasma / platelet donor too - they would have a needle in each arm - blood out of one arm - into centrifuge - spun with warfarin to separate the bits they wanted- rest pumped back in other arm . . .took bout 45 mins - but got colder as it progressed due to the warfarin in the blood.. It was at St Georges - You used to get Youngs beer as a thank you I Have a gold donor badge and went to some thank you do up in town

I used to be a blood donor in the UK, just made it up to the bronze award before I moved here. Working abroad and getting my tattoo done limited my donations a bit! Unfortunately my count wasn't high enough to be a platelet donor. I used to work for the NBS planning donor sessions for the mobile teams, not easy but a very rewarding job. It's a shame Canada doesn't want our fluids, their loss eh?

Re: Giving Blood?
Like the above posts I gave lots of blood in the UK, but alas not here.
I was also on the bone marrow transplant list in the UK AND i am here. I can not even remember who i sent my details to, but I get a letter once a year confirming i am still on the list.
Of course now i am waiting for some one to want my bone marrow. I am secretly planning to be some one in Australia or New Zealand

I was considering going to give blood after I saw an advert on TV for it but I guess they won't accept my Northern Irish blood as technically I'm British! Bit annoyed about that actually!
