Default Getting a job

Hi guys,

Well we are now 6 weeks here in Ontario and we are settling in well. The only issue seems to be getting interviews for jobs. It just seems like they wont get back to us. We are both highly qualified to work. I have 2 degrees and my better half a masters and a degree but we seem to be loosing out. I know we are not here long but wish we could find some work and start moving up the Canadian ladder.

Ontario was good for finding work but it depends on what you both do for a living, someone might be able to put you on the right road if we knew what kind of work you are looking for as people on here are very helpfull (mad but helpfull) good luck and hang in there

If its any consolation its the Ontario way. I thought it was cos we were foriegn but watching a few Canadians go through similar experiences its the norm.

Takes ages to get any answers, phone calls answered etc etc. You just have to keep plugging at it.

MOH took a job as a security man as soon as he got here, we figured it was easier to get a job if you already had one, and though the pay was the pits- minimum wage, well it was money and people and living and working in Ontario

It's a Canadian thing I'm afraid. I've emailed 15 resumes as requested along with covering letters telling why I think I'm capable to do an office job. The adverts specifically state that they will not contact you under any circumstances and not to ring the lesson learned is patience

Take a few months to get settled in - three maybe.

Get acclimatised, make a few friends, do some social stuff for reference/conversational aspects, don't look like it's a big crazy rush. It will give you more to talk about at interview, and a little bit of time under yer belt allows the interviewer the ability to better figure out if your'e a sticker or a runner.

In essence, that way you won't come across as a tea drinking British misfit.

Those are the rules. A very important paper shuffling beaurocrat created them.

Follow them, just like a Canadian

I've been in Canada just a year and have really chilled man but now I have a work permit I want to get into the work force like yesterday.

Perhaps if I look close enough I'll find a advert that forgot to add the DON'T RING

How do you get 300 Canadians out of a swimming pool?

You say: Please would you all leave the pool?

Not me man, I was pounding the pavement 5 days after landing in the country.

Once those bills started landing on my doormat, reality hit home and I needed to find work ASAP.
