George Cross and NHS
The Queen has awarded the George Cross to NHS staff, past and present, in honour of their services and bravery over the years, and the citation was hand written by her

Awards and hand clapping are ok, but a decent pay rise would be a fairer and better way of showing appreciation.

But she can only congratulate them, and give them support.
She cannot order the PM to do anything, or do things over his head.
Maybe this will shame him into action
But I don't see the need to denigrate the bestowing and intent of the order because it didn't come with money.

If our head of state is so impotent to do anything beyond bestowing trinkets and baubles, it's surely reasonable to question the value of the function at all.
The way that it's been reported is very much less questioning of the background than you suggest - it really is just being largely reported as an honour the NHS should be very happy about.
