This is a very sad day for the Canadian armed forces. The military is there for a reason, and should not be used to promote social engineering, regardless of the sexual preferences of its members. As we are not raising flags to celebrate the skin colour or religious beliefs of our military members, why promote their sexuality?

This has nothing to do with promoting "tolerance" or "diversity." It is just another clear indication of how privileged this tiny minority group of shrill, self-centered narcissists really is compared to the rest of us that do not qualify for "politically protected" status.

There's been a lot of that around lately. Its like when you're down the pub and some obnoxious bloke starts a conversation with, "You know these . . . " and you're thinking to yourself, uh oh, this bloke is hardly an expert in cultural anthropology.

Hardly sad. However, the (Western) world has lightened up a lot in the last thirty years. Some of the formality has been ditched, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Displaying a rainbow flag at the military is probably more a signal to gay men that they will be accepted in the military now.
