Gaming Systems Poll
Hi all!
After seeing the Wii thread a minute ago it has prompted me to ask you guys about these gaming system thingies. I personally think Pacman, Hungry Horace and space invaders rule OK but I know I have to get with it a little, having a teen in the house. She has requested a XBOX or a Wii or whatever else would play RockBand or whatever it is for Christmas - her preference is a Wii. Hubby reckons it will be a waste of money and just gather dust, however I think it may encourage her to have her friends hang out at our house sometimes rather than always going to their houses. So what system should we go for? I don't think she will ever be a serious gamer and I am leaning towards the Wii as it seems to be a cheaper option. |

Re: Gaming Systems Poll
I want a Wii as well, especially that Wii fit it looks like fun.
|
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
We have a PS2 - can't remember the last time we used it
Would love a Wii - friends have a Wii & it's a lot of fun what ever your age - caters for everyone  Must say though, i'm very fond of my DS Lite - especially like '42 All-Time Classics' - card games, board games & loads more :) |
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
Nikki has always sworn she didn't want a Wii, couldn't see the point, hated the thought of having to move to play a game etc (lazy? her? )
She tried Wii bowling in a Sears for about 2 minutes and loved it so we'll probably be getting one at some point. Once I've got a PS3 (just for the BlueRay player you understand). |
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
I voted "none". It was the closest I could get to what I really think.

Re: Gaming Systems Poll
We have a Wii but that is more for the kids, and they use it a lot
Personally I would rather use my computer to play games on |
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
Steve and Souv - I'm with you on that BUT I have a 13 year old who's world ends at least 4 times a day and she wants a gaming system or piercings/tattoos for crimbo - so you can see where our minds are heading on this one:eek: |
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
Voted for all of them, since I had them all before I moved here
|
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
we've got both a 360 and a ps3. The ps3 was mostly for the blue ray player ( so I'm told ;) )
|
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
Why would you need/want more than one? I know several people that have multiple systems and I don't get it - hence the poll.

Re: Gaming Systems Poll
We have a Wii and have just got a Wii fit and it is brilliant. We all use it (mum, dad, 10 year old girl and 5 year old boy). Favourites are/were the Wii sports and Arcade Games but since we've had the Wii fit those games haven't been used by the kids.
Can thoroughly recommend it. Karen |

Re: Gaming Systems Poll
i voted for all 3 systems since i have owned all 3 just recently sold my 360 as i needed the money for other stuff and didnt use it as much however they all have certain aspects that are better than the other. wii is good to play with mates but have only played it on my own a few times get bored of it. the ps3 i play because my mates have it so play them online. in my opinion the 360 had better games and online was much better but there isnt that much difference between it and the ps3 i just chose to keep my ps3 since all my mates had it

Social games? Action games? It is all about eye candy for you or the interaction with the game? |

A wii all the way - so much fun. Just the 2 of us and our other 30something friends playing on it so your kids are bound to love it!
i'd like Santa to bring me DS lite as I feel my brain needs some training:D |
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
Another vote for the Wii - a lot of fun

You'll find it quite hard to get hold of one anywhere instore before Christmas now though... I think most places operate a waiting list system, but we actually risked buying from this eBayer and I was amazed - it arrived in a matter of 4 days (via Canada Post Expedited - gotta be a record!) and is brand new and sealed (and N.American, not an import.) Not sure where/how he's getting these quantities of them when there's such a shortage  and yet he's only selling them at retail price, but that grey area aside, I'd certainly recommend him: http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-Nintendo-Wii-...mZ300267790656 |

I've got a PSP for when I go away as you can play games, music, store pictures and play films on it. For the family we've got a Wii and it's brilliant. If you want a blu ray player you've got to think about PS3 or XBox for the serious gamer. If I was to do all over again I would buy the Wii for the family. Good luck:thumbsup::thumbsup: Shaun |
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
My sons have a PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PSP and that little hand held Gameboy thing that I think they renamed. Oh and one of them is a World of Warcraft addict so thats all PC based.
I think it seems to depend on what kind of games your child would be wanting to play, as to what to buy them. The Wii is great as my younger daughters can play it too. Where as the 360 seems to be more social due to the online chatting part. One of my sons likes to have a headset on and chat to his friends while they go on missions shooting others. Haven't tried the PS3 as they weren't interested in it, and haven't had the PS2 out in ages. I suppose ask them what games they are interested in, and see which consoles run those games? |

Re: Gaming Systems Poll
I'm sick of seeing the adverts for the Wii, when there is none of them about to actually buy.
Whats going on? |

Whats going on? Nintendo Wii Mega Bundle, Game Console, 3 Games, 2 Remotes, 2Nunchuks and a Tin Kit, $409.99 delivered. |
Re: Gaming Systems Poll
Personally have a 360 but then it's not really geared for a teenage girl. You can get the arcade system these days for less than a Wii though it doens't include a hard-drive which you really should have.
If she's going to play a lot and wants 'good' games that aren't just fun for 5 mins or when you have lots of people round, then get a 360 or a PS3 if you really want a Blu-Ray player. Though Wii does have some quality titles there is a lot of dross and me-too games that have been pumped out without much thought. Get Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Boom Blox and that's about it... In terms of Rock Band - the wii version on a basic level is ok but it's lacking a lot of the things that make the 360 or PS3 version great, ever expanding downloadable content & online play to name two. Guitar Hero World Tour is just out and is comparable to Rock Band with some good reviews coming out, though the Wii version is again not quite stacking up. |
