Leon's and The Brick are at the more affordable end of the spectrum.
Not all Canadian cities have branches of IKEA but, where they exist, they are similar to other IKEA stores I've seen around the world.
Urban Barn sells contemporary furniture that is more upscale than Leon's and The Brick.
Pottery Barn sells contemporary furniture that is even more upscale than Urban Barn's. There are Pottery Barn stores in major Canadian cities, but I haven't found a detailed Canadian version of the company's website. Still, if you look at the American website, the goods for sale and the prices in Canada are pretty similar, in many cases identical.
Crate & Barrel is an American store that reportedly is something like Habitat in the UK. A few months ago it was stated on the forum that they were going to open a branch in Toronto this autumn.
If you're interested in other furniture styles, let us know what you like, and we may be able to point you in the right direction.
When it comes to white goods, I'm a great believer in a department store called Sears. Their house brand is called Kenmore. They provide good guarantees.
When it comes to winter clothing, Mark's Work Wearhouse and Mountain Equipment Co-Op sell quality goods at fair prices.

It depends what you're looking for. Affordable or expensive? Contemporary or traditional?

We are interested in contemporary and not too worried about price. Would rather spend a bit more to get nice furniture!
Thanks!!

Also, companies that sell real wood and not just veneer.
Regardless of whether the furniture is real wood or veneer, does it come flat packed or already built?
Many thanks and apologies for all the questions!

veneer is real wood. there's nothing wrong with a quality core with a quality veneer layer and a good finish. depending on the type of furniture you're talking about: using a veneered panel sometimes makes way more sense than solid wood. in a piece of furniture i would draw the line rather between veneer and melamine. but of course that's only me as a cabinet maker...

Here in the UK veneer is just chipboard with a layer of wood look film. Comes flat pack and is not generally that good quality. I am assuming the veneer is better in Canada then?
For real wood we call the furniture solid wood here. I am learning!! This is exactly why I like to look into everything!

Are there solid wood options in Canada that don't come flat packed?
Thanks!
