There have been 30 gun-related homicides in Toronto this year. While that is a lot, it is by no means daily. About one a week, actually, on average. Still too many, of course, but your perception does not reflect reality. Again.

If you live in a large city, you, regrettably, expect more problems to occur and it doesn’t impact your life so much, as you probably don’t know any of the people concerned. Fredericton is so very small. Lots of people were affected one way or another. In an office of 13 people, 5 couldnt come to work as they were locked down. Then quite a number of people knew the police officers that were killed so they were very upset. There really is just a feeling of disbelief that something that of this nature could happen here. As a newcomer I don’t know them, but great numbers will know the victims and all of their families. I always laugh here because when you meet someone it only takes you five minutes before you find you have numbers of people in common.
As as a police officer, you would perhaps ‘expect’ this sort of thing elsewhere, but not in Fredericton.

I didn't realise Millie is in Fredericton. I messaged my friend who lives 5 minutes from the scene to let her know to stay at home. She hadn't heard anything at that time. We will be back with her tomorrow evening so will catch up then.
