Just a quickie question.
Want to make my fave welsh cake recipe and have to use self-raising flour.
What is the conversion flour here? Is all purpose the same? Nothing ever seems simple any more. Help please anyone... Thx

All purpose flour = plain flour.
Some grocery stores do stock self raising flour, but it's dead easy to make your own too. See below:
Makes 1 pound of self-raising flour.
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons baking powder
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients; store in tightly covered can or jar. Use in any recipe calling for self-raising flour.

Hubby works for hmmm flour company 
i was advised 1 cup flour, 1/2 tsp salt and 1 1/2 baking powder
makes my buns lovely
now i make it evertime i bake, dont pre-do it as i do alot of all purpose receiped now, but for my uk stuff i just make it as i need it

Have you been in Dickens lately? Cost of everything is 60% more than would pay for it in uk plus most things I picked up were months out of date. Almost bought a bag of my fave twiglets until I realised they were dated May and a regular bottle of robinson squash is over $9 (kids can forget that). Did pop in there today to see if they had any Oxo cubes but they didn't stock them. Anyhows, how you doing?

Have you been in Dickens lately? Cost of everything is 60% more than would pay for it in uk plus most things I picked up were months out of date. Almost bought a bag of my fave twiglets until I realised they were dated May and a regular bottle of robinson squash is over $9 (kids can forget that). Did pop in there today to see if they had any Oxo cubes but they didn't stock them. Anyhows, how you doing?

...thanks! How are you? I get a bit of a discount at Dickens, and long since stopped worrying about the sell by dates. I miss the stuff I get there too much to worry about the cost. If you crack the flour thing, let me know.

Hi you can also pick up Self Raising Flour from Wal-Mart, it is in a black and white bag and is called Brodie.......it is good, makes lovely cheese scones

i just have all purpose and bread flour in now, with the help of some expats, my baking and bread making is back upto scratch

I seem to be getting more and more wheat sensitive...

yeah red mill do the gluten free flour 
i don't think they sell in large bags, but i have seen it about.....hope that helps

really appreciate that tip I like others have been left confused by all the makes of flour here and just kept with buying the homepride S.R which as others have commented is so expensive here

If you are heading to Ontario way, Peterborough area more specifically then Sticklings bakery does the best gluten free loaf I have ever had. There's also an excellent bakery where you can get pies and pizza bases.

You can get spelt flour here, but its white. I used to use Dove's farm but I cant tolerate the spelt flour here. However there are plenty of good gluten free goods to buy so you will be fine.
