Floods and more water

I need to start building an arc soon.

Have been invited to friends on top of a hill in Staunton. Yup, would be great. Just one thing - it is right on the other side of the floods in Glos. Not really a good idea to even think about driving to get there. Trains are out of the question as well.

Bowsers set up here in Cheltenham.

Power will go soon.

Have e-mailed all my clients and given them direct e-mail to my blackberry incase everything goes down.

I'm fed up with this rain. AM thinking of heading off to friends in Germany. At least hey have some sun there.

ARGH! I'm going to the bar.

Oh, I really feel for you. Such devastation and the aftermath of it all, well it doesn't bear thinking about. Stay safe!

I feel for you suffering in the floods - seems so bizarre especially as here in Alberta we are having weeks of unprecedented hot weather - sorry to rub it in!! Stay high and stay dry.

Oh, thanks for asking! We're absolutely fine here in Hull. Only drizzles of rain and not lasting long either. I've been near Princes Ave today and it's all dry I'm happy to say:)

Thanks! Glad to hear that. For both you and my friend's parents. Have been thinking about calling them. Been a pen pal with their son for almost 30 years.

People have died in europe from heat exhaustion. People have drowned in UK from floods.

I was on radio in SLovakia today talking about it.

It is absolutely insane.

Just in on the news. Severn is 6 inches from brusting the wall holding it back. When it does, and it will, parts of central Glousecter will be under 10 feet of water.

Peak is supposedly at around midnight.

we were very lucky sold our house on kingswood hull in january then moved out to lloydminster striaght after. hate to think what we would of done if we waited to sell our house because we would never of sold it after the floods so we was lucky really as the house was under 4 feet of water. My friend said he saw our house on the local television programe and could`nt believe how lucky we have been. I know it sounds selfish but we would`nt of got to realise our dream of getting into alberta. the weather today is in the 30`s and its getting warmer we had the wife`s parent`s over for three week`s and they thoroughly enjoyed it here even commentating on how good the food taste`s here. they went back to a rainy bilton grange in hull last thursday. mind you it`s going to take us two year`s to recover after they have been. :D

I can't understand how the whole of Europe are having a heat wave, yet a few miles across the channel in Blighty were all getting washed away.

Was chatting to Arris earlier, she's had to fill her bath with water and is on standby with candles . Not heard from her since so hope she's ok.

Kingswood did have it bad didn't they? :(Imagine after all that devastation trying to sell a previously flooded house? Doesn't bear thinking about.
My brother lives in Anlaby and has lost everything downstairs and the car, freezer/food in his garage. Yes, they're only things but they've worked so hard like most people have.
I'm glad you're enjoying your lives out there. Are you sure you're not missing it?

It's not as bad if you've got insurance and can replace them (although it's bad enough to loose everything) , but they are now refusing to insure certain postcodes because of flooding. How would you sell a house in a flood area thats not eligable for insurance?

It's not like we don't all pay for it anyway with higher premiums when we next renew

Exactly. You said it better than I could have. This is what most of the people here in Hull have concerns about. The ones I know of and have spoken to.

Oh yes, I hate to think what the premiums will be going up to after this!

It was 46 degrees here today with the humidity, but if you shut the house up even if you don't have air conditioning, as I don't - its bearable.

I can't imagine what it must be like for those people returning to their houses - even after the water goes - they are full of stinking mud.

I hope everyone on the board is safe.

Hi there guys,

Thanks for your concern :)

Our water went off at 7pm last night - other parts of Cheltenham 12hours before. Cheltenham, Gloucester & Tewkesbury have been warned that we'll probably be without fresh water for 7 days & possibly as much as 14
Bowers are being placed round the affected areas & bottled water is being handed out.

It's been touch & go if an electricity plant that supplies Cheltenham, Gloucester & Stroud would get flooded. The River Severn was said to peak very early this morning that they were fighting against - it's looking hopeful that it's been saved.

We have not been flooded in Cheltenham, but we have a close friend in Gloucester who was on friday - his had gone by saturday morning & left with an awful mess. We also have a friend in Upton on Severn whos home is flooded & his buisiness in Tewkesbury which he can't get too. Watching the news it must be terrible for people who have been & still are flooded we feel we have got off lightly with the lack of water.

bye for now,

Arris :D

It's also full of raw sewage  I can't believe people are letting kids play in the flood water

Hi
Its a huge portable container with taps they use to store water ,then they position them in at various destinations for people to have access to the water when the water supply has been affected

A tanker truck. Imagine the things you see delivering at gas stations, but full of water.

400 bowsers so far have been distributed in Cheltenham, Gloucester & Tewkesbury - they are aiming for 900.

Some are on wheels, the ones in Gloucestershire are not - I have driven past several today with queues of people waiting to collect water.

Listening to the local radio, people are reporting that some of the bowsers are being vandelised :curse:

A new area of Gloucestershire is going to be affected by loss of water later today - the Stroud area & will be having bowsers delivered.

Another one in Gloucestershire here, but I am near Swindon so we are unaffected by power/water problems (as yet). I really feel for anyone who has been affected.

I can't believe that the bowsers are being vandalised - the mentality of some people is beyond comprehension.

Never mind the dish washer, what about the bath/shower. You'll both be nice and ripe by the time it comes back on:ohmy:, I'll be smelling you from here;). Hope you know someone with running water for the hygiene aspects.

Good to hear you managed to keep the lecky, it must have been all our good wishes. That would have been really bad, no water or lecky.

Cheltenham here too. No flooding of our house but no water since early evening yesterday.

Just spoek with a friend in Stroud. They are expecting to be without water in the next 24 hours. News on TV said it can last up to two weeks.

More rain coming in thursday and again sunday. Right now it's partially cloudy and sunny.

Apparently some supermarkets are distributing water bottles. Not sure the on on high street is. That's the nearest to m. So is the Bowser at St Pauls medical center. STill have pots and jugs filled and a couple of buckets with rain water.

I'm trying to get out of here until we have water back in our taps. Possibly to Germany or Sweden.

Stay safe adn dry all of you.

I saw that too, really sad story... to be honest, though, at 21 weeks it would have been touch and go even with the best medical care right at hand. However, that doesn't make it any less tragic for the parents, absolutely horrible for them. And not at all helped by the fact that they now have to return from the hospital and all the mental anguish of that episode to face a flooded house as well. My heart goes out to them.
