It was when they released excess water from the dam upriver iirc that caused all the problems down river which caused the problems in town. I'm hoping it won't be as bad as 2005 too.

The #3 was good on Wednesday all through southern Alberta, no real rain till the Crowsnest then buckets. I saw a great big bear loafing around just east of Paulson Summit this morning!

Mayor just said they're going to cut the power to non-essential services in Calgary. Says to get your batteries ready. Too risky with electricity near the water I assume.

From what I can gather, this is only in affected areas and those who share services with affected areas...

i assume this means that us in the far north of the city shouldn't have any power interruptions, although with the way the weather is, i wouldn't rule it out!

some of the pictures coming through twitter are frickin' crazy...can't believe there's been no reported fatalities yet!

stay safe YYC

Went to Safeway to get some milk, couldn't get up the aisles as the line for the checkouts when the full depth of the place. Probably 40 people per checkout in line, walked straight out and got some beer instead, liquor store was empty!

A fistfight over water broke out one of our local Superstores.

People taking the empty twenty liter containers at Canadian Tire and filling them at home I presume.

Not good.

I don't want to seem insensitive, but there are other places currently being affected by fossil fuel burning induced climate change....

No seems about it, at this point in time that is insensitive and unnecessary.

Fair enough. I'll shut up until the crisis is over and we get to cost the damage.

So I'm not as essential as I thought then. There was a brief power interruption, I think they must have switched us over to a separate circuit.
