If you want an Asian owned Fish and Chip shop the, once bravely named, Ohrid, at Coxwell and Dundas, is now called British Style and is very good though not, I suppose, as soggy as desired.
Now if only I could find a decent cornish pasty (or even an indecent one) on a weekday downtown. |

This is exactly the place that you need to avoid at all costs.
For places that are a bit further afield, the chippy on Lakeshore in Bronte is awesome, and the one in Oakville at Rebecca and Dorval is acceptable. There's one at Droval and North Service Rd, "Caz's" not too bad. I have yet to find the perfect F&C's here. There is one on 6th line at Upper Middle thats not bad, "Arts" - the owners daughter(lives in London now with her movie producer hubby) is best mates with Richard Branson and his family and she has pics of them all together on the chippy wall. There is one in Milton, a chain of 4 or 5 I believe not too bad can't recall it's name though. The hunt continues.......................... |

Threads like these keep me amused and will be around for years.
If a cod is caught in the atlantic ocean it is the same cod if being brought back to shore in Canada or the UK. It doesnt change  Now then what type of batter do they coat it in and the ingredients used in that batter and the oil it is fried in can make a difference much like the type of potatoes they use for the chips and the oil they also fry them in. So yes the fish and chips can vary from country to country. Its not rocket science:lol: |

Anyway who is to say that the UK has the monopoly on what fish and chips should taste like? Would the Brits be outraged if a Canadian born over here and travelling to the UK for the 1st time and going into a chippy in the UK and ordering fish and chips and after a few bites exclaims this is crap it tastes nothing like fish and chips in Canada:ohmy: |

The thing is, it's not slightly different — it's not even close. It's possible for someone to come much closer to English style over here if they utilized the same recipe and cooking approach.
