Hi all, just a little info for anybody thinking of moving to canada as a autobody technician (panelbeater) one week into the job and its alittle different from what im use to, maybe more damaged panels get repaired here also some older write off cars have panels taken off them and replace panels on slightly newer damaged cars, equipment not as good, also the canadian attitude that they repair cars better, well they dont the standard is nothing special, the other technicians are very helpfull also polite even tho there on flat rate they are happy to help you out, my story is i got the job and they said they would get me to and from work well that wasnt working out to well so i told them tuesday after work i had kept my part of the deal by coming over from england if they didnt keep theres i would be on my way home within 2 minutes everything sorted picked up 7.30, goin home at 5 everyday, the gaffer even took us for a drink on friday after work, all in all its been a good first week apart from shipping my tools over im told the ship got delayed in coming over and they wont be turning up till mid november, but i have the use of a toolbox for the time being, take care james

Hope things look up for you. I wonder if you are aware that you tools may be subject to duty when they get here?

I don't know the ins and outs of this, but I know a few expats who shipped their tools got nailed.
I did not mean for that comment to be a pun, sorry...

Hi dingbat, yes i no i may have to pay a fee to customs couldnt think of what to do as im only bringing the tools over and the address there going to is the bodyshop, maybe if id brought loads of stuff over i could of said the tools were for my garage at home, i think you can claim some money back at the end of the tax year im hopping so, if they go off the value of the goods i didnt set it to high so hopefully it wont be to bad, thanks james

Just to let you know, we didn't get taxed for tools and there were 2 tool boxes on the form as well as other stuff.

Yeah, Our shipping was also delayed so hubby was using tools that were about a hundred years old and consisted of a spanner and a hammer
Really frustrating for him - and you I 'spose.

yes it frustrating the toolbox im using is fairly good the lad has changed jobs to foreman so he doesnt need his tools, there are some tools nobody in the workshop have they havent even heard of them, and back in england there everyday tools so this is taking time to get use to

After 3.5 years hubby still finds workmates saying - well what do you use that for????
He has found some of the tools he needs but no one else has heard of at Princess Auto so they may be available.
Hope your gear arrives soon and that it's tax free
