Default Film Night 2015

Went to see Spectre over the weekend. Bond movies need to be seen in the cinema. Daniel Craig brilliant as Bond again. Need I say more?

I watched the new Man From U.N.C.L.E. last week. Really disappointed.

A decent enough movie but it was just not U.N.C.L.E. in any way, shape or form. You can call Hinge and Bracket "Batman and Robin" but it won't make them the caped crusader and the boy wonder.

Haven't seen that one yet, but want to. Just watched MI5: Rogue Nation. Kind of turned semi-comedy and plenty of plot holes but OK for entertainment.

I usually enjoy the MI movies too. And the other JB of course.

And to steal from another thread I found Trainwreck to be highly enjoyable, which surprised me given I wasn't keen on some other Amy Schumer stuff I'd seen.

Man Up I really enjoyed too. Another romcom with Simon Pegg who can almost do no wrong in my eyes.

Lake Bell was also in in this as well as the recent No Escape which you may have seen billed as The Coup.

I had high hopes for that one thinking it may be another one belonging to Salvador, Missing, Under Fire, Year of Living Dangerously and others. But having got off to a good start it really plummeted and became really unbelievable.

I'm happy to suspend disbelief for the sake of entertainment but not this time.

We watched Spectre at the weekend on IMAX. Good film, I enjoyed it more than Skyfall. I also enjoyed The Force Awakens trailer in IMAX....rather looking forward to that in December!

How is Spectre for kids? Is there blood/graphic violence? Skyfall was quite ok IMO but recently saw Quantum of Solace on TV and thought it was a bit much. Would prefer to see in the cinema if possible.

More action, thrills and spills rather than graphic. Couple of fights as usual but nothing gory.

There's a bit of a torture scene but it's more one to screw your eyes up to and it's more 'thought' than gruesome in the same way the "is it safe" scene from Marathon Man is.

I saw a supposed trailer for Spectre and I don't think there was one part of it that had any relevance to the movie at all.

I saw The Martian a few weeks ago and there were seats in front of me that keep on moving about. At first I thought the entire row was having a collective stroke but to my disappointment it was just some special effects type thing. It was very off putting for me, even so for those who obviously paid extra for the experience. As for the film, I liked the fact that he had to grow potatoes in his poo. McCain are definitely missing a marketing opportunity here.

I have to agree that Daniel Craig was superb as Bond, infact in Film 2015 fashion (with me instead of Barry Norman or Jonathan Ross)
My personal opinion:

Cue Filim 2015 theme....
Da da daaaa d d d da da da daaaaa d d daa daa dah……

Welcome to Film 2015 with Shep…..

Well here we have the 24th instalment of Bond…….Spectre…firstly…….I enjoyed it, it was a good movie, although personally I don’t think It was as good as Skyfall, to me was Skyfall was the ultimate benchmark - best actor ever playing Bond, great story, and the whole feel of that movie was gritty, realistic and actually almost believable….. (with some movie making licence of course) i thought that would be the new direction they were taking Bond in……?

Spectre was not even the same type of film, it saw a return to the more usual Bond format, a few gadgets, tongue in cheek, blowing up the meglomanic’s base at the end, and some stereotypical Bond stunts that would only ever be in a Bond movie, which although entertaining are not realistic or true to life.

However im not bashing the movie at all, it was a great 2 and half hours of fantasy, and not too stupidly over the top. Plus a classic retro Bond villain has been ressurected who wasnt killed off so could make a reappearance further down the line complete with stroking of white Persian cat introductory moment.

I think I just expected Spectre to be more of the Skyfall style….. A good way for me to try and explain what I mean is…..the BBC show Spooks…..this to me was a superb show, very gripping and tense but believeable at the same time, Skyfall reminded me of that (again with a certain amount of licence to make for a bigger show on the big screen) Spectre wasnt same type of film, but still enjoyable as a traditional Bond film, and the Aston…….i did get a bit hot under the collar and excited about seeing that glorious sight! until its untimely demise.... Hope Craig hangs around to do another, great performance by him.

Wooo, good Trainwreck is next on my list then - thanks Bristol

I'm usually happy to suspend belief too but not each time. MI is a series I usually like; maybe it was the mood, but I found this one to have a bit too many plotholes but still enjoyable "overall"

Just to note that because I was not keen on what I'd seen from her previously, for the first 10 minutes or so I found her slightly annoying - albeit with the odd funny moment.

Then suddenly it became more 'mainstream' but still very funny.

I've never been one for anything biographical so for me to recommend this is saying something.

It's not a story of The Beach Boys or even Brian Wilson. We're really just observing some events in the 60s and then again in the 80s.

Switching back and forth between the two times doesn't get annoying like these things sometimes do. The guy playing the younger Brain is like a cross between Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork, so you can believe he's really someone in the music biz. With John Cusack playing the older Brian that's harder but then those parts don't feature creating the music anyway so it doesn't matter.

Brian Wilson said he "actually believed those characters were really who they were, like the guy who played Doctor Landy was so right on ... that it absolutely scared me. [I was] like absolutely in fear for about ten minutes."

I can see why.

Do you ever start watching a movie and you decide you don't like it but you have to see how it ends?

If so, don't start watching Flutter (from 2011 not the one from 2014).

It features a guy having bizarre bets with a mysterious, but glamorous bookie. Really it's more 'dare' than a bet with each more strange than the last.

I wish I hadn't started watching, but I just had to finish it. I'll bet you will too.
