Fear of flying !
Booked flights and really looking forward to Toronto.....BUT !!!!!!!!! I have a real fear of flying !
Its not just a bit of a phobia either its a full blown terror ie the last time i flew to TO i had a massive panic attack on the plane :o I have flown a few times since and it does not get any better (i just take more prescription drugs now) Anyone else hate it as much as me ! PS i used to love flying and it only changed when i was in my late 20`s and i`ve no idea why :frown: |
Re: Fear of flying !
yup , hate flying . Have had 5 hour long panic attacks on planes. Distraction is the key for me. Usually spend most the flight chatting to the poor cabin crew , either that or gripping the armrests so that my knuckles do indeed turn white. Turbulence or the smallest wobble of the aircraft set me off. I don't think I will ever get used to it. The diazepam just gives me a headache and sleeping is impossible.
I made it over on our immigration flight by telling my self " in X hours I will be a permanent resident of Canada, in X hours I will be living in Toronto" I hate flying , suspect i always will but won't let it stop me going places. Although I may draw the line at anything longet than 10 hours !! Pm me if you want to chat Z |
Re: Fear of flying !
Hi
You need to see someone who does NLP to get rid of your phobia. A 20 min session will get rid of it permanently. If you want to know more or want me to recommend someone PM me. |

It ruins any holidays i have cos as soon as i land i`m thinking about the flight home ! On the TO flight the stewardess had to ask if there was a doctor on board just after take off as i was hyperventilating so much and my hands had contorted into a very strange position and i had pins and needles all over. My poor wife had to hold a paper bag over my mouth as i couldn't hold it myself ! she hates flying with me as i get a little uptight on the way to the airport (understatement) It sounds stupid but i really thought i was gonna die
I will now be thinking of the flight every day until November :curse: Thanks Zoe i might just pm you when it gets nearer  according to cabin crew on last flight I was on , the accepted practice now is to give oxygen for panic attacks , not the paper bag routine , but yeah I've had cabin crew think I was having a heart attack :o |
Re: Fear of flying !
my son has a real fear of flying and we had to go to the doctors to get him drugs to calm him down and on the day the drugs never took affect as they were suppose to so we gave him some more as he was starting to freak out.there was a 15 minute delay and by the time the plane took off he was fine,BUT when we got off the plane he was like a drunk and wanted to fall asleep in the airport I had to sit him in a chair and hope they let us through and they did.there is a god somewhere hope you are not traveling alone

Re: Fear of flying !
Diazepam does the same to me. Try Lorazepam (Ativan) it works wonders!

Re: Fear of flying !
Simple solution from this credulous simpleton. I have a serious flying phobia, rooted in a real "incident" in a real aircraft, mild injuries incurred as a result thereof:
Two Valium. One just after check in, the other after going through security. Small bottle of wine with the main meal. Seat near the loo. Sorted. ;) |

I hate take off and landing and if the plane hits any air pockets I start to panic, my mother has the same problem. She has had a fear of flying for 36 years after flying through a storm and landing without one wheel coming down. No matter what sort of fantastic holiday my father offered she would not get on a plane. My parents then moved from the UK to France......When we started the whole moving to Canada thing I actually said to my mother that her never visiting would really upset me.... In the vague hope that it would push her to get on a plane. She was still not prepared, one month ago during a major family crisis my mother offered to come over, I said no all will be ok, then something else happened, I picked up the phone and asked her to come.... She landed 48 hours later, dead chuffed..... She is still afraid to fly, but has learnt to conquer it for the end gain. She hates take off and landing the bit in between is ok. Diazepam and a alcoholic drink get me through. Charlie |

I understand how a phobia feels and how it can affect your life (almost daily, sometimes). Yes, it's shite. It's not something you need to live with. Get proper help. I would recommend cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and you can find a CBT therapist from here: - http://www.babcp.com/ Medication can certainly help and it is often used in conjunction with CBT but the benefits of CBT go beyond helping you with a specific phobia. |

Re: Fear of flying !
I am the same, I have had a fear of flying since 2001 when I had 3 bad flights in a row, Anaheim to Vegas, Vegas to Anaheim and LA to London. It was turbulence that was the problem, at one point everyone screamed when we dropped:unsure:
Since then I haven't been the same, used to love flying! I went to DisneyWorld to get married last year and that was the first time I had flown since 2001 and although both flights were brilliant, hardly any turbulence, I still hate flying:confused: I thought that if I had a couple of good flights under my belt then I would be okay. I'm dreading the flight to BC, a bit long for my liking, but like others have said it's the idea of living there that is pulling me through, a means to an end and all that!!! To think I used to travel back and forth to Australia and I thought nothing of it:ohmy: |
Re: Fear of flying !
Thinking about it i really believe it must be the lack of control that sets me off ! I ride a sports motorcycle every day of the week (it has a limited top speed of 186mph) and i don't think twice about it. Yet statistically flying is so much safer
|
Re: Fear of flying !
hate flying, hate not being in control of the airoplane, hate the confined space, screaming kids, hate trolley dollies who smile sweetly at you as you are having a 'fit', hate the movie that they show you ten times, hate not being able to just get out!!!! hate my ears hurting and hate all airoplane operators who don't think about this one when they are working out the costs per passanger versus the fuel cost!!!!! all to do with cabin pressure and they 'can' change it......
solution......drugs, lots of them!!!! alcohol, lots of it.....get chucked off before you even get on the plane!!!! sorted...... no seriously, i hate flying and i use 'bach's rescue remeady' spray.....tastes of pure alcohol, buy it in boots, four squirts and i'm ready...... |

What use is a bike that won't rev to the red line? :p |

What use is a bike that won't rev to the red line? :p PS it will rev to the redline but the limiter will kick in 5 or 6 gear when you hit 186 ! (de-restrict and maybe get 195 but not quite 200mph) All this and i still panic beyond belief when on a plane ??????????????? |

You got me there ! Its part of a gentlemans agreement that all production bikes (in Europe) are limited to 300kph (186mph) as not to offend the bureaucrats !
PS it will rev to the redline but the limiter will kick in 5 or 6 gear when you hit 186 ! (de-restrict and maybe get 195 but not quite 200mph) Or get a larger front sprocket. |
Re: Fear of flying !
I was a flight attendant once... phobia set in after 5 years, I managed to do another 5 years after going through therapy, however the fear never really disappeared. I had to give up my job...

Trade up. A Ducati Desmosedici RR's going to breeze past one day and you'll feel down-trodden and inadequate.
