you think? I read it as otherwise so will see if there is any clarification.

The NHS hospitals that I worked in were just fine. I get rather tired of reading/hearing complaints damning the whole service.

Sorry Fledermaus I think you misunderstood me completely there - I certainly wasnt knocking the nhs or any A&E facility - My point being that here if the kids (or some adults for that matter ) have an earache or something else trivial outwith dr's hours it is expected to take them to the A&E - In the UK you wouldnt dream of 'wasting' those already stressed nurses and dr's time with ailments like that while there are serious problems in the same waiting room

they are probably the same people who dial 999 because:

"my wife hasn't prepared my lunch"
"I can't find Homebase....... and am very distressed"

............. You couldn't even make those 'emergency' calls up. Have a listen ....http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk...ons/999_calls/

oops, my profuse apologies to you. I think I am so used to hearing the NHS criticised that that is what I expected to read and so put that slant on it.

Sorry!

I do disagree though that people in the UK didn't waste NHS resources by pitching up with trivial stuff. It happened often enough. Possibly here in Ontario it is more tolerated because there aren't enough GPs to go round, or even if the patient does have one they can't get an appointment. Some people are quite knowing and turn up at midnight to see someone about a long standing problem. They know this is the relatively quiet time, some of them bring a book and a snack. Some ring ahead to see which doctor is on duty and how long the wait is.

The area covered by the hospital I work in has just acquired 2 new GPs and so I wonder what effect that will have on Emerge visits.

I miss my GP's at the medical centre I worked in. It would put Canadas health service to shame?

ALL of Canada? or just the bit you are familliar with:sneaky:

Besides, "Canada" doesnt have a health service as such, each province is responsible for running its own, and really its more fragmented than that as hospitals etc have to raise funds outside of the provincial programs for equipment and resources.

My GP is great....the previous one, not so much! Its variable, that's the bottom line.

This kind of comment is getting oh so tiresome.

I do so wish people would refrain from making sweeping generalisations about Canada based on their "local" knowledge.

My GP is the same age as my youngest son.;)

He is very good and has a great sense of humour too.

My GP is great but (not surprising in such a small community) we're also friends with him and his family. Often, at larger social gatherings, it's also all his practice colleagues (who aren't people we'd call personal friends, but we now know them all outside of a professional capacity...) I am so *dreading* getting anything embarrassing now
