Default Fake Christmas Trees

Hello all,

Before we left the UK we sold pretty much everything, including our fab quality fake Christmas tree.. Naively I thought we'd be able to have a real Canadian tree.....there are plenty out here to choose from! Problem is the apartment we're renting doesn't allow real Christmas trees. Bum!

Anyway, went out yesterday to look for a replacement fake tree just to tide us over until we get a house, whereby I will FINALLY get the real thing. I was really surprised at how expensive the fake ones are! Even the little ones stuck in a rotten urn-like pot were over $100 and they were naffer than naff. I confess we did only look in Canadian Tire but chose there because we assumed they'd be priced reasonably. Any suggestions as to where we can get a reasonably priced (nice) fake? I looked online but they started at $400 and went up to over $1000 for a seven footer. We can't have Christmas without a tree

Anyone coming over....DON'T sell your fake tree. I really regret it now

They've [fake trees] have been gaining popularity in the last few years and as such prices have risen and quality has dropped. We got one for $70 about five or so years ago and its 'really' nice. Ones like it now though go for well over $300. From looking at what is on offer up here I don't envy you these days.

Pffft.....looks like we missed the boat there then! I'm thinking of smuggling a real one into our apartment under cover of night.....

I could really kick myself for selling our UK tree!

Apartment rules are more observed in the breaching of them in my experience.

For example the apartments we lives in were nominaly no pets allowed. Our neighbours had two cats and two boxers. We didnt say anything as we had 4 cats briefly, before we moved out to our own place.

Id just sneak a real tree in and plead ignorance if challenged myself if I wanted a real tree.

Our fake tree came from Canadian Tire, it was pretty cheap, and we've been using since I arrived in 98. Its the decorations that count, not the tree isnt it?

Hi,

Walmart have a 6.5 ft Pre lit one for $49.00. Can't really see the quality on the website but once you've covered it in tinsel etc you won't really notice! Plus, if it's only for a year, who cares at that price?

Home Depot also has similar trees but you will likely pay a bit more there...

Actually it's the smell of a real tree that counts.

And it's available in a can nowadays.

Hadnt though of that.

We've 3 cats, 2 kids and the kitchen is right next to the living room in our open plan house, so Im not sure we would even smell a real one anyway...

Do the more expensive artificial ones smell any different?

Thanks chaps! You're all so helpful. Seems like I just have to watch out for a bargain. I may have missed the Bay offer though as I can't face asking my OH to go out straight after work to buy a tree. Shame that but thanks for the heads up though Miss C . Looked on the Walmart site and can't find any trees at all! Me thinks I'm having a technophobe moment. Will try again in a bit....thanks for that info Deeny

Incidentally, I haven't spotted any signs for real Christmas trees for sale and was just talking to my friend on Vancouver Island and she's noticed the same. Is buying real trees frowned upon? I can't for one minute think that could be the case in a country where trees outnumber people!

I gave you the link to Walmarts earlier, lol, available online so no having to go out.

Sears sale is on for 2 days and you can buy online and have it delivered free.

I'm a wally! Sorry Souixie......and hey presto, there they are! Technology is not my strong point and I'm using an ipad which is, officially, rubbish. How anyone uses these things for work, I'll never know.

Thanks though for your links. Most helpful.
