Faithophobia
What a great new term! Not nearly as loaded as "the other one" but imparting the same cynicism. Count me in.

+1.
Everyone always talks about how religious people are "peaceful" yet the gender stereotyping is ever so evident in daily life....

Re: Faithophobia
I agree. I have no respect religions that have no respect for me. Especially those that think I should shut my cakehole cos I'm a woman, that I don't have right to bodily autonomy, and that can't take a joke. You know who you are.

Re: Faithophobia
It infuriates me every time I hear someone in school talking about how their sister/cousin/etc is going back to pakistan for an arranged marriage. Its actually quite sad to be honest. They bring them back at 17 so there isn't much the gov't can do to stop them being removed from the country because they are still a minor and under their parents jurisdiction. Then once they get to their home country they have their passports taken from them so they can't leave again. Its rubbish and I think Canada should do more to protect its young women with "authoritarian religionist" parentage.

Thanks Kiwi. It frustrates me that so many hard won women's rights are at risk of erosion by the creeping conservatism in religion. Another excellent oped by Yasmin Alibhai-Brown appeared in that paper that no one likes this week. Worth a read. Even better than Suzanne Moore's piece, as Yasmin is well qualified to comment.
