I am set to fly into Toronto on the AC 787 in August. Looks like a nice plane. I may see how much it is to treat myself to premium economy, but we will see. Flying over on a Lufthansa 747... That is usually a good flight, plus it has the wifi onboard... Wondering also if the AC 787's have wifi on them? There was a CBC article in March indicating they would be implementing it on the 777's, but since then nothing. Air Canada to extend Wi-Fi to international flights - Business - CBC News
Also, for those of you who are frequent fliers, any tips on maximising points and such? I signed up for Lufthansa Miles and More since I fly with them about once a year and plan to continue that, but other than that not much. I am considering a credit card but I don't really spend enough money to justify it.

A few years back when I was flying a fair amount for work I accumulated quite a few Aeroplan points, but I'm not really sure how useful they are. I got free upgrade points for Business Class, but the flights I took rarely had upgrade seats available. I got a 'free' flight to the UK and back.. except I had to pay about $800 after all the taxes and 'surcharges'. Probably the best thing was the free access to Air Canada lounges (though, I must admit, the Lufthansa and American Express lounges have better food).

I've flown the AC787 in P/E to Copenhagen. It's nicer than Economy but not Biz Class. (Flat Bed). Food is a little better & its a smaller cabin so nicer. Whether it is worth it depends on the cost vs economy and your personal economics!
I was supposed to fly on it last year and AC made a last minute aircraft substitution to a 767 which doesn't have P/E. In that instance I got bumped to biz but I have status with A/C and YMMV. If you do get downgraded you should get compensation but since we're talking about A/C it wont be a lot.

Gozit, are you in Malta now, if so - hows the weather & have you any specials plans on this years holiday?
Would you mind telling us the cost of the round trip flight Toronto-Malta?
By any chance are you flying business class?

Premium Economy sounds funny to me.
You know, you pay a premium for a bit extra. So if you book Business Class you get luxury and if you paid Premium Business Class (if there were such a thing) you'd get something extra to normal Business Class (even more luxury).
There's a scale. Like 10 at the top and 1 at the bottom. So if you're a 9 and you go more top, you become a 10. If you're a 2 and you go more bottom you're a 1. In this case 'more' is premium.
So Premium Economy should get even less Economy. So you don't get a tray at your seat or something.

My mother paid for the flight for to see my Aunt and Uncle in Australia and didn't want me going through Thailand and the Middle East on my own (I was 16 at the time).
Anyhoo...I got upgraded to Premium Economy and as I wasn't old enough to drink, there really wasn't much difference except extra leg room. The flight between LA and Auckland was awful as I stuck in the middle seat between 2 larger men for 11 hours (that does sound weird) :S
Needless to say I refuse to fly United now and I never take the middle seat after that experience.
I have done Option Plus with Air Transat (mainly for the extra luggage allowance) and it was ok - you get a little bottle of bubbly

Option Plus...sounds more like travel insurance.
It was so much simpler to have first and second class rather than Economy, super saver, Economy plus, Business, Club, Option Plus, Cattle, Super Saver Business Plus...
Don't forget to share it with the pilot

We recently flew over to the UK in with Air Transat in what they call " Club class"
which is in fact Pemium economy. We were in the front row in a 2:2:2 of a cabin with just two rows in on an Airbus A330 with nice wide seats and excellent leg room though no footrests in the front row so we would take inflatable ones on our next trip- which we bought on Amazon.UK whilst over there. Way better than BA and Virgin PE IMO.. I would definitely recommend paying that bit extra. It isn't just legroom, it is also the wider seats that make the difference do you aren't fighting for elbow space with some tubby lard bucket next to you.
Flying back home on Icelandair PE tomorrow so will feed back my thoughts after we get back

I've already booked this years UK flight with Transat in November, cost me $636 return in cattle class.
The Transat club class ticket is $1661, imagine paying that price, club is even more with the bigger airlines - it's just not something a peasant like me would pay for
I book by phone with Transat, because I refuse to pay the on-line booking charges. I also wont do the costly add-on pre-seating either
I don't eat their food or drink other than water either, simply brown bag it before leaving home for the airport going both directions, eating in the departure lounge. Only thing is that I have to purchase costly water, all because the security check wont let me bring my own
7 hrs, sleep most of the way, don't speak to the person next to me

The Transat club class ticket is almost double that price, even more with the bigger airlines - it's just not something a peasant like me would pay for

We generally would pay a bit more and not then dread the flights. I would not consider buying Business class as I think that is way more than I would like to spend on flights.

edited post 13, found out a 'club class' return ticket for the same date is $1661.
Yeah, I know, some folks get what they pay for
By choice when I fly alone, its usually cattle class most everywhere, having done so from YYZ to Korea, Japan, Australia & NZ. Its a bit of a pain in the backside, though any savings on the flight is added to club class [concierge room] hotel stays, nicer accommodations, usually includes food & booze
