Not a good time to visit anywhere if you are from Canada or anywhere else in the third world.

Yes, personally Im not too bothered though, ive made enough trips there, its about time my friends and family made the trip over here.

I can get my fun within Canada's borders, if i go anywhere outside Canada it will be an all inclusive probably to Cuba, which is cheap. :thumbsup: until the Americans start flooding in at least.

I am heading to the UK in October for a short visit. Last such visit was 2010. Not such a big hit for me as my UK pensions are doing OK just now on the exchange rate. I will loose a few cents on the dollar when i convert back again for the trip, but not enough to loose sleep over.☺

True true. If we lived near the border I would go across and get a job so I could be paid in USD.

Hard to impossible to take trips to see family at the poor rates and falling.... Maybe they will come here.....lol

Immigration issues and costs to get my wife legal status in the US.

Also not sure we could afford healthcare costs there for her meds and the cost of insurance. Hard to predict what it would cost but quotes I have gotten on CA and WA exchanges are several hundred per month just for the premiums before even seeing a doctor or getting a script.

I 'll check the exchanges when I am home as I don't recall the exact cost and deductibles and such.

We have thought of going there. Immigration isn't cheap in itself on top of all the other associated costs of a move.

Its a possibility in the future possibly.

Sure why not. I am not in career jobs they are all dead end so may as well take advantage of a stronger currency and if the USD goes below par, then find something else.

Jobs I could get down there all pay 11/12 USD and that goes further then 11/12 CAD does.

XE had 2.09 the day you posted this. Yesterday it was 2.07 and now 2.04. :(

The last time I saw such differences was when it began the big slump from over $2 down to $1.50 :eek:

I saw someone said on BE that CAD used to trade against GBP at around $2.50 per £ a few years ago. Does anyone remember when was it that it got so low against the GBP and what were the reasons?

Chinese 'stuff' is affecting the exchange rates, so there will be some unusual fluctuations due to investors moving to currencies.

There has been a steady growth trend in the pound against the CAD over the last few months, which has a good chance of continuing as UK interest rates are likely to go UP in the next few months, whereas Canadian rate could go DOWN again as its next move.


It was at a peak of about 2.60 in October 1998.

Back in '02...I remember 40p bought a dollar... and Canadian housing was a lot cheaper then even in dollars. Those were the days for Brits selling up and making the move ;)

So for years I was telling people not to move to Canada because the exchange rate was so bad, now the exchange rate has improved and there's a recession, so you shouldn't move here.

So the moral of the story is: don't move to Canada. :lol:
