Do Sikhs get an exemption from wearing a helmet as they do in the UK?

No i believe they have to abide by the laws everybody else does.

Plus there are products on the market to cater for this anyway

I used to get motorbike taxis in Bangkok all the time as it was the fastest and cheapest way to get around. Hardly ever wore a helmet. Used to sit on the back and smoke a cigarette on the way to the pub or work or wherever I was going.

In the morning you see office girls riding side saddle on the back and putting their makeup on etc.

A bit like this:

No laws to protect people from their own idiocy there. Admittedly the road death rate is quite high.

If you want to parachute thats fine by me, just as long as you dont expect me to pay for it.

I seem to recall similar "I want the freedom to choose" arguments when seatbelt use was made mandatory, but no one seems to question it now.

The only US state that doesn't mandate seatbelts is New Hampshire. Without any irony the tag line on the NH plates is "Life Free or Die"

I do. I don't usually bother with a seatbelt.

I, of course, think motorcyclists should be able to wear what they want. I think the argument that it costs other people for them not to wear helmets is invalid in America and feeble elsewhere, people smoke, drink, have unprotected sex, ride horses (no helmet of course); even the Canadians can't legislate for everything.

Selfish aint I.
No, you're not being selfish, simply practical.

If an immigrant gets into a preventable medical predicament that costs the taxpayers money then they should be deported back to their own country and their permanent residency should be cancelled.

Yes, it drives me mad, without it I would rarely belt at all. The 2003 F150 is apparently the country dream vehicle because it has a defeat switch.

My Canadian mate was all about not succumbing to the restrictions by the government by not wearing a seat belt. He got a $160 fine two weeks ago.
