My choice is not in the options list. I don't know whether I have unknowingly eaten horse meat (by definition), and I don't think I would necessarily choose to eat it, if there were more attractive looking options on the menu.

However, I don't think I would object, as such, to eating it. "_"

Eating horse is only a step above eating dog IMO. Shouldn't eat human-friendly animals.

That's just being sentimental, what's the difference really?

If you don't have the sentiment for close mammals it becomes a question of where do ou draw the line? Monkeys, chimps, humans? Meat is meat when it comes right down to it. But I think the further away from sentient animals you can push the line, the better. Perhaps limit it to fish.

Many people keep pigs as pets. In fact pigs are smart and curious and a lot cleaner than people give them credit for (farm conditions aside), but bacon is just too tasty Im afraid.

What we do and dont eat is very culturally driven. Eating dogs is normal in large parts of the world, and lord knows what hindus make of our Beef consumption...

Completely agree. Even on the bacon part!

Many? Do you actually mean a tiny minority. Even amongst people with hobby farms pigs are quite rare (well around here anyway - it's goats, llamas, horses etc).

Sentient? What about squid and octopus? They are a lot cleverer than horses.

Besides, if there is a sentience level you won't eat, what happens with a species that is on the cusp of that. Would you eat a stupid horse, but not a clever one?

Thousands of people, more than can fit in my living room.

Really what does it matter how many "many" is? They are intelligent animals who get a bad press as smelly / dirty. But we eat them... lets not be sentimental or hypocritical about it.

more simpsons...

I'd really like to have a pet octopus. In fact, I said this out loud just the other day.

Not sure I'd eat it though, I'm just not a big fan of calamari.

I've seen that octopus are sentient, and are perhaps cleverer than horses. So they would be high on the stop eating list. Squid too, if that's the case.

I'm suggesting principles here, I'm not actually vegetarian (any more).

Yes they are, just as dogs are. But the fish sentience level is believed to be low. Anyway, it seems a good place to draw the line.

What about sharks? They are supposed to be quite clever too and they are fish.
