A Canadian from Quebec told me that everyone thinks that they have Easter Monday off but they don't.

So does that mean everyone does not show up for work as they think they have the day off and their boss is wondering where everyone is? Or is everyone at work, thinking they have the day off, wondering why they are at work?

Provincial government employees here got the day off. Private business did not.

Then he was talking crap.

Good Friday is a holiday everywhere in Canada except QC. Easter Monday is a holiday in QC but nowhere else. Unless you are a government employee, in which case you get both.

If you are a Gov employee, every day is a holiday, or PA day

Whatever.

In reality, most people take both anyway, or are given the extra one. It's the same with Boxing Day. That is a statutory holiday only in ON.

I didn't even know government workers got Easter Monday off, figured it was just a fancy name for the day after...lol

I don't know anyone who gets these non-holiday holidays off, like apparently Easter Monday, Boxing Day and the like.

I worked but my industry never closes, open 24/7/365, holidays are only given off if they happen to fall on your normal day off.

At-least part of the Easter holiday in Canada is a holiday and get holiday pay....Not so in the US, none of Easter weekend is an actual official holiday.
