Default E-readers?

Fancy one of these as may soon be joining the ranks of C train commutors.

Thinking about the Kobo 2 out in a couple of weeks. Its supposed to be much faster than Kobo 1 and have more shades of grey etc, but is it annoying to change the pages with a thumb rather than touchscreen?

Would the kindle be better? Although I have read it has dififcultlies with some file types

Which would allow me to download books from Calgary library? Anyone done this successfully?

Any experiences welcomed!

I have a Kindle and it works sufficiently well for my needs. To obtain comparison comments you should look on the internet. It's unlikely anyone on here has tried all available makes to be able to give you an objective opinion. There's different models of each brandname so price is a large factor in the decision.
Your final comment suggests that the Calgary Library allows downloading of books from its collection. If so, I imagine it would only those books now in the public domain.

Be prepared for half the train to read it over your shoulder

I've been wondering for a while, but think I am going to get a large screen smartphone & then get kindle apps - less to carry.

Just download the equivalent audiobook through a torrent site and play it on your MP3 player. That way you don't even have to go to the bother of reading it.
For story books / novels I think the new KOBO will be fine if you don't want too many fancy features. I have a lot of letter-sized PDF files, mostly technical stuff, and after quite a bit of research I realized no e-reader currently available would be of any use to me. Will have to stick with my netbook.

Thanks guys. I am thinking about the kobo, it will be convienient from the train and I like reading rather than listening. But I am a skim reader sometimes and I might find it slow to turn pages.

Calgary library do seem to have quite a few e books, which leans me towards the kobo. Also I like that you can adjust the font, as currently I can't see well enough to read in bed without new glasses. I will get the glasses but not until I get money in my Healthcare spending account in Jan.

Thinking of an e-reader rather than books as books can be quite heavy, plus e-books seem much cheaper.

we have a sony reader each , got them pretty much when they first came out.
I absolutley love mine. I'm a fast reader . I could get through 5 or 6 novels in one vacation. This way is a lot lighter on the baggage allowance
