Does anyone know where i can get a multi region DVD player? I bought 2 real cheap ones that play region 2 (EU) but one is packing up. I know Sony manufacture multi region players but they can't seem to track them down in the Sony Store locally ? Appreciate any comments .

a lot of players can be made multi region. Usually the cheaper ones are easier to do thatn the expensive ones
my advice would be to find one you like the look of , then google the model number to see if there is a way to multiregion it.
usually its just a code entered via the remote, i know ours was

The Seiki BD660 Blu-Ray player from Walmart is $78 (was $50 in a sale a few months back) and is multi-region for both types of disk if you enter the magic code on the remote. So if you don't mind spending a few more dollars you can get a multi-region DVD player and also be able to play region-coded British Blu-Ray disks in the future. We just bought another one of them after our old $30 multi-region DVD player broke.

If you don't want cheap, then an option is Yamaha. I have had mine for 2 years now ( multi region , multi format ) and works well though at the time it was $200. Rarely use it now as most are being replaced with BR versions.

So...OH decided he wanted a multi region dvd player for xmas, not knowing what he would prefer I asked him to have a look and tell me which one he wanted. Then I said 'Are you sure we can't make the one we've got region free? There's a thingy on Expats. I little googling later and a bit of fiddling and button pushing, existing dvd player now region free and my xmas present idea was up the swanny
He was dead happy with what he did get though

I bought a wee cheap one from Superstores which was about $25 and it plays everything = it comes in pink, grey and black and is half the se size of most players - great for kids

We have 3 DVD players in our home. Two cost less than $50 and play everything perfectly. I was given the other that originally cost over $400. The picture quality is exactly the same but it won't play half our DVDs.

The DVD player sucked too, after 20-30mins of watching a movie it started to go jerky and not play right. The SEIKI BD660 is much, much better than any of those <$20 ones.

Buy any us dvd player (philips are apparently the easiest to hack) and then re-program it using hack codes above.
We did that - have a good quality philips player that runs any region dvd
