Frankly I didn't see a point until I moved to Canada. But it is the one thing, together with all the traditions and so on it brings, that really differentiates English-speaking Canada from the US. If it weren't for that it would purely be people banging on about healthcare.

I would have thought what differentiates us from the US, is their horrid gun culture

(As i mentioned somewhere else, this was the main reason we chose not to move down there in 1978. My Dad had become an American so it would not have been that difficult to go south.)
