GW definately what the others said, shoulder checks before turning right, come to a complete stop at a stop sign, accelerate quickly up to speed on the ramp to highway and decelerate only when on the exit ramp ( normal driving but I had it drummed into me by instructor) and my instructor said that more people fail by not driving up to speed limit than those that drive over on the highway. I definately feel that the driving lessons were worth their weight in gold, even though I've been driving for 20 years. Good luck :) Terese |

Hi
I have my driving test tomorrow afternoon, just wondered if anyone had any last minute tips ( will be taking it in North Van). Am so nervous Thanks Terese Did mine in N Van, it was pouring down. The driving instructor wanted to chat about English beer and eventually we decided to do the test. I went to the corner of Keith and realised i was a bit close to the car in front and he was off scribbling onto his piece of paper. I thought, ooh like that is it! It was easy. Good luck! {edit} well done! Did he take you down by Victoria Park? I remember there was a slow zone round there. I just noticed the sign as i was passing it. I didnt go onto the highway at all funny enough. |
Re: driving test tomorrow afternoon, any tips?
Sounds like you were lucky. I was taken all over, down highway, then load of little back roads and smart housing estates where there were loads of 4 ways stops, 2 way stops, stops without stops signs etc oh and deer wondering around.
As I failed that first test last week, the one I had this week more or less took me same route but I think she must of added all the school zones in the area. So anyone taking here on VI would advise to take note of school zones and as all ready emphasized shoulder checks and stops. My instructor said to count to 3 at stop sign then edge forward..OH found his test easier but perhaps thats the difference with men and women. |

Oooh he told me if I hadnt been driving for 10 years in London at that stage he would of failed me. I thought, ooh really. Worst drivers in the universe are in Vancouver imo. My old boss was doing his usual racist rubbish about all Chinese people being the worst drivers as he drove into a one way street, the wrong way. The irony was lost on him! |

Ahh, I can't wait to do my driving test. Again. I originally learned to drive in Vancouver and got my licence there when I was 17. When I moved to the UK I could drive on my Canadian license for 1 year before I had to exchange it for a UK one. However, because I couldn't prove I did my Canadian practical test on a stick-shift car, they would only give me an Automatic-only licence in the UK, which was useless, as I had a manual car! So, I had to do the practical driving test again, and promptly failed it. A month later, I re-took it and passed- phew. Now I'm moving BACK to Vancouver, I am going to have to re-take that damn test AGAIN to get a Canadian licence back!!! I must be the most tested driver around! :D and to add insult to injury, the dutch one is expired, as is the US one, though my UK one is still valid, and so is the irish and NZ one... but the insurance rates are better for natively obtained licences in some area's. |
Re: driving test tomorrow afternoon, any tips?
Ha!
I stand corrected! I remember that the Vancouver practical test was easier than the one I did in London. My London driving instructor told me that the UK pass rate for the practical (driving) test is around 27%! (or at least it was when I did it 7 years ago.) Made me think that UK driving instructors obviously aren't very good at preparing their students! And it must be a nice money spinner for them- if the average student has to take the blimmin' test 3 times... that's a lot of extra lessons they're going to take in between test dates! One thing I did learn was to tell your driving instructor to be super strict with you- I failed my first test in London because of a couple of small stupid things that most experienced drivers do all the time, like indicating at the same time as doing the shoulder check, etc.... Obviously I would never actually turn or change lanes without checking, but the tester person wants to see you do the sequence, so do the actions clearly and distinctly. After failing that test I found a stricter driving instructor, and told him 'Look, I know how to drive, I need you to teach me how to pass the test!' He was brilliant! He tapped my hand every time I made even a teeny tiny mistake. Passed my next test 10 days later with no faults. I wish I'd hired him in the first place. Don't waste your time with a friendly instructor who just likes a good chat! :curse: |
