Besides, I still have my UK license. Never took mine away. When you're there just renew your license if it been less than 10 years and send it to you're old mans.

You may wish to check your father's insurance policy to see if it has anything to say about licence provisions. Whilst you still have an English Licence (i.e., it hasn't been revoked by DVLA) you may find that the policy excludes those with "foreign licences".

I heard you had to take a driving test again?

Anyone know if the UK pink paper licence is still a valid licence for hiring and driving a car in UK? I have had mine since 1991 and don't think I have to replace it but would l like to know for sure.

Some UK insurance policies only cover additional drivers with UK licences. When I needed to use my mum's Micra, she phoned her insurance agent who told her a foreign driver couldn't be added as most foreign drivers couldn't do manual shift.
When we explained that I'd passed my test in the UK and had moved to Canada, but still had my UK licence number with me, they just asked for my UK DL number and sorted it quickly.
It's probably a good idea to at least make sure your know your UK DL number if you don't want to renew your licence.
