Drinking/Nights Out/Uber/Vancouver....

Hi all,

Question - in London, any night is a good night to go out to a bar/pub, drink, get tipsy, socialise, drunk, grab a bite, then get a reasonably priced ride home (usually Uber)......

I have now within the last month relocated to Vancouver... living in Surrey for the time being..... Just out of curiousity, how do you replicate that process here?

I guess the good drinking spots are found Downtown right? Yaletown possibly?

Is there a cab service here similar to Uber at all in terms of affordability?

Do people here go out, and take the last train (sky train) home like they do in London?

Just trying to figure this out! Thanks guys and gals!

No uber. You have to take a normal taxi, and downtown to Surrey can get pricey.

Staying overnight at a hotel is an option some do.

Having a designated driver as well.

Some will choose to just drive.

If your not in any desire to stay til the bars close, take the last sky train or a night bus if there is night bus service.

In the suburbs of North America adults usually drink at home watching the tv, teenagers and early twenty year olds, gather outside in a school, park or stripmall parking lot to drink or if you’re lucky a parents garage. So if want an active social life around pubs, clubs and bars, don’t move to the suburbs.

Not really. Yaletown isn’t that great for places to drink.

Plenty of places along Granville although it gets quite busy on weekends.

Gastown is probably better though

I need to find a sober friend to be the designated driver! :fingerscrossed:

Move to the city or if you have your health care card or other insurance, schedule a lobotomy.

Are you into sports and fitness? That's the main 'culture' in Vancouver...but I suppose if you can't beat them (and you can't afford a boat like you know who) you could always join them. Lots of beach and mountain related events.

There are local pubs in most areas .............. most are quite small, though some could also be called "destination", serving good meals, etc etc.

There are 3 small bars that I know of in our local area, 1 not popular, 1 serving "pub meals" and a little out of the way, and the 3rd right on the main street, and has tables for about 20 people!

After 50 years here, I would say that the pub crawling culture of the UK is not found here except in the (17-) 19-25 age group, and immature males of any age.

As others have said, most people entertain at home.

Better start skiing, and going to apres-ski
