Downloading Music in Canada
#1
Greetings fellow earthlings.
I want to download music freely and legally. I was told on facebook that Spotify was the place to go. Alas I live in Canada so this is not yet possible.
Can any one point me to a good site that isn't going to inflict my laptop with bugs and virus?

If so there are numerous binary mp3 newsgroups. Downloading music is currently legal in Canada, it's illegal to upload it.

I just use iTunes, expensive I know but who cares. I also have an Apple network so I can play music in all my 2 rooms from my PC. Not an Apple network as in the fruit, that would be a stupid idea. Or the now forgotten Apple stores the Beatles created. The giant empire of the white apple logo Apple is what I mean.

Try www.legaldownloads.com. It isn't free as you asked but at 99c average per album it is virtually free.
I have been using it for about 3 years now and has been very reliable.

I can't work Apple products. The interfaces are cumbersome and not at all intuitive, where for example, is the on/off switch on a ipod? I can't find it so, when the thing gets confused, the only way to stop it is to pull the battery out. They're all a bit crude and best suited to people interested in the geekery of the process rather than people who just want a tool for music or internet or whatever.

If you can't remove the battery is the idea that you throw the thing away when it runs down? That's not very green and doesn't seem a bargain.

Its not hard, the case snaps together, you can pry it apart (need something thin to get it started) and re-snap it again after. Lots of on line instuctions out there. At least, ive done it with an Ipod classic, and replaced the hard drive with a CF card too.

Does that include making sure that the artists are all compensated for the use of their intellectual property
You can download legally, for free, but the artists wont get any royalties, which is somewhat morally ambiguous.
FWIW I only download music torrents from long dead artists, but then its somewhat convenient that my current taste in music doesnt extend far past the 60s at present...

I just want to download another 10-15 tracks for my ipod shuffle.
Should an artist release two or three singles I like consecutively I buy the album. simple.
Artist's don't actually make any money of singles- it's album sales and more importantly these days live concerts.
Why do you think Michael Jackson signed up for 50 live gigs!
My conscience is clear!
