Dog name ?!
 

We lost our Labrador of 13 years last February before all the family came to Canada and knew we'd eventually end up with another.

I went 'looking' with my OH last night at a dog knowing for sure that we'd end up with one and we did. It's not ready yet so we can only pick her up on July 5th but we are busy picking names. I'm sure we've had a thread similar to this so my aplogies if that is the case but wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

I'm obviously expecting some ridiculous responses and quite looking forward to some and it wouldn't be right if I didn't get any so thanks in advance to Oink, dbd33, BristolUK and the others for those :D

I've attached a picture we took last night when we first got there.

I can't remember what the favourites are but will post our 'best of the rest' later on tonight when I see the constantly changing list.

You could name her Maya, Rosa, Billie, Etta, Condoleezza ;) you get the picture. Personally I'd call her Britannia.

I hate to get technical, but in the picture, there is a lump...and that's why you got the Dick, Willy and Nudger suggestion. Is this the abdominal chord? So it's a girl? Or is it a willy, and he's a boy. You can't call a boy Molly.

That's what Guy Gibson of Dambusters fame called his black lab and Richard Todd as Gibson, used the name in the original movie. It is now dubbed out when the movie is shown. There's supposedly a remake being made and the dog will be called Digger.

We have a black lab cross ... Jett .... but (apart from Joan Jett) maybe not a female's name.

His sisters are called Cinders and Domino (because she has white paws!).

We considered a lot of names for our dogs ..... Luna; Pearl; Magic (as in Black Magic!); Marmite (that didn't wash with anyone except me!). I like 'grandma' and 'grandpa' names - Stella, Molly, Daisy, Ethel, Mabel, Dory, Charles, Eric, Bob, etc, etc.

However now we've had our male dog for a little while I think I would have chosen Hoover or Piglet based on his eating habits.

Well - thanks for all the suggestions and we've spent some time and had a good few giggles a lot of the names.

In the end we've gone for a very normal name of 'Ellie'. This was the mothers name of our previous Lab we had for years. I was fighting for nigger and a couple of the other suggestions but was on a loser with those. Hehe.

Only been a short thread but loved it - thanks.

Looking forward to July 5th when we pick her up.

Why don't you wait to see what your dog's personality is like before you name her rather than just going by what color she is ? It also seems unfair that human beings get at least two names and pets get only one. Our dog started out being called Segovia but that soon got changed to Tweakey McPiddle.
