I got a Yamaha DGX220 76-key keyboard for Christmas, from Tom Lee; I like it, but I'm no virtuoso or expert so can't really comment on how it compares to others on the market!

Ah! Then you're perfect! I'm a musical dunce cap and hard of hearing to boot!
I was just in a Tom Lee's looking! Do you like it?
I want to learn to play a few songs and be able to transfer stuff I 'create' <snort!> to a computer.... does your Yamaha DGX220 do that?

I tried porking a faggot once: it's hard to compete when you don't have the meat.

I asked him if it links to a computer but........he didn't have a clue. I'll go look at it now.

it's enough to start with and it does all sorts of things and sounds good....

Re: Does anyone here play the keyboard?
we were given a Yamaha keyboard some time ago - can't remember the exact model number but I imagine it's been replaced anyway as it's a few years old. It looks a bit like the DXG220 It's mainly used by the kids to make random noises, but FWIW here are a couple of comments:
I'm not a pianist, but my wife, who is, finds the short keyboard annoying (I think it's 70-odd notes instead of 88; some other Yamaha keyboards are only 61 notes which even I would find pretty limiting, I think).
The range of voices, pre-programmed styles, automated chording and single-finger accompaniment in the bass, percussion (seemingly hundreds of different drum kits, plus synth effects and a vast number of tuned percussion sounds), rhythm section bits & pieces, are all pretty impressive to me as a non-initiate.
Ours is old enough not to have USB connectivity for MIDI connection - it still has the old-style DIN port in the back, and lacking the relevant cable, software or, for that matter, know-how, I've never bothered connecting it to a PC. But a musician neighbour has the whole shebang in his basement and it's seriously wonderful when driven by somebody who knows what they're doing!

LOL, you sound as clueless as I do!
According to Yamaha's 'keyboard finder' thingy, that DXG220 model is what suits my wants best.

Apparently, G says it does connect to the pooter. I was looking for a port and missed the wire!
