If you think that Harper's vision of Canada's future is similar to the Liberal's view, you are the deluded one. Deluded by Harper to be specific.

Re: Does anyone else find it ironic...
Newspapers are saying today that Duceppe is going large on sovereignty tonight. He fired the warning shots last night when he went for Layton on Bill 101.
This seems risky. The NDP is gaining ground in QC. If Duceppe cocks it up, lots of people will defect from the Bloc, to the NDP. My missus used to be pretty strong on sovereignty but has outgrown it (she got bored listening to Duceppe yesterday) and will vote NDP. She may well not be alone.
Harper's best bet tonight would be to keep his gob shut and spend two hours stroking a stray kitten, while watching the other three rip each other to bits.

The NDP is now leading in the polls in Quebec. I strongly suspect that a fair few ridings will turn orange (from the current total of one).

I see that the possibility of a coalition raised its head again yesterday, despite assurances from the Liberals early on that they wouldn't go there.

With the parliamentary system here in Canada, and at this point in time on the political map, only the Liberals can form a majority govenment other than Harper. Normally, I'd happy if the NDP put more roots down in other provinces, but not in 2011, and not at the cost of THIS Conservative leader getting a majority.

The NDP are surging in the federal polls, especially in Quebec. Oh no ... it's starting to look like a vote for Layton is essentially a vote for a Harper majority. The Liberals are running a poor campaign in key areas and this is not good news - has to be Liberal to NDP migration surely?

I've not seen an analysis of the national trend excluding Quebec, but it seems to me that the NDP vote is flat and soft.
Just my read, but it is clear that the Lib + NDP combined vote is over 50%.

The NDP certainly seem to be making headway in Quebec but apparently at the expense of the BQ.

Well, I hope you're right. The Star and G&M were reporting today that this NDP trend could be music to Harper's ears. Ignatieff seems to have gone flat and soft the past week...

Like I said, just my read. In most places outside of Quebec I still suspect that folk will end up voting strategically. Jack may be increasingly popular (and the NDP is certainly nearer to me on the issues than the Liberals), but I'll still be voting for the latter because in my particular riding it's a 2 way race.

I sure as hell hope this is wrong.
OTTAWA — Jack Layton’s NDP has bumped the Liberals out of second place nationally in public favour and the front-place Conservatives maintain a comfortable lead that could deliver them a majority government on May 2, according to results of a new poll.

It’s difficult to predict how much this boost in the popular vote would translate into extra seats for Layton’s party, he said.

“It does come down to the ground game,” said Bricker.
“You have to be able to get those votes into the ballot box.”
