Documents for getting a basement apartment?
Gosh, I hope i'm not annoying people with all my questions!
I've been researching basement apartments on Craigslist and kijiji as i'm thinking that that might be a good first stop in my move. I wondered what kind of documentation someone would likely ask me for if I called someone up about wanting to rent? I read that people often want references - are the references liable if I defaulted on rent? I currently don't have a job lined up which I'm assuming is going to be a big problem for people too. Finally, I was hoping to get a short term rent (say 3 months) in case this experiement goes wrong - so many things to factor, argh!!
What I was proposing was to ask someone if I could pay 3 months rent up front on the basis that, after 2 months, if i'm still in one piece, that i could continue (I should have a year-long Visa arriving in the 3rd week of March) Do you think there is any chance that a landlord would entertain the idea?
