Default Doctor shortage in Sooke

Just picked up on this news item that covers a doctor shortage in Sooke.

Might be of interest to any UK based doctors thinking of shifting over this way.

I could certainly think of worse places to work and live. It certainly isn't easy to move over here and work- several exams, supervision, having to work in the local hospital amongst some of the barriers.
It seems a hell of a lot easier to up sticks and go to Oz in comparison. If they removed the stipulation of hospital coverage there would, I feel be more British GPs coming- it is putting them off and I can see why, they are not hospital doctors. The Health Authorities insist on this as they are cheap labour compared to getting "hospitalists". Until they change this stipulation, Sooke and many many more towns and communities will be lacking in GPs.
The flow of South African GPs to Canada seems to have stopped, the SA Government were less than happy about training GPs to have them emigrate in large numbers and so I believe have had some influence on this vital supply of doctors over here.

Let's face it...there's a shortage Canada wide and soon to be the same in the UK too. But as SP "they" don't make it easy to come and work here... You have to really want to!

Edited to add....My husband didn't have to do hospital coverage to work in Ontario...

Hospital coverage might be preferable to -20 (today) and the 6ft of snow still on the ground not going anywhere soon
