I've actually never heard of this urban legend, but wouldn't it be the Blue Arrows?

I was always told it was red dye. All the internet pages that I read today which say it's just an urban myth are, I'm convinced, nothing but a deliberate disinformation campaign designed exclusively to get me to stand in a rapidly-forming red cloud and thus barred from the pool.

I'll still not risk it, just in case.

Perhaps the red dye fable was designed to discourage young gentle-ladies from bathing periodically?

It's actually a faint yellow dye.

Little kids do it when they can't be bothered to get out and go to the toilet ( we have all been lazy as children) but when you grow in and learn about all the germs and infections....

I don't use public leisure centre pools anymore for this reason...

I don't use pools as I don't like the thought of swimming in a body of water that many others have been in before me, just grosses me out big time.

I have a pool at work, I am sure people pee in it, especially kids. And usually once a month a younger kid whose parents didn't put some sort of diaper or something on as the kid isn't potty trained will do a # 2 in the pool. Maintenance hates that, its apparently a big pain to deal with, no clue what they do, but it shuts the pool down for several hours.

I used to swim in lakes all the time - look at a drop of that under a microscope!

Of course I do! FFS, it's 300-440 ml of sterile liquid in 35 000 L of chlorinated water. And that's just our small backyard pool. You get a good sized public pool and you're looking at 100 000 L of water.
