Do you get Christmas off & Do you like your commute?

Re: Do you get Christmas off & Do you like your commute?
Forgot to say about my commute, it's around 20 minutes (phone says 17 and some seconds). About 2, minutes along a gravel road, 6 minutes along a bendy rurally road, 6 minutes along one junction on the hwy and the rest in town. Coming home can take hours, running errands etc and then the gauntlet of a bad set of lights before being back on the bendy roads.

True true. My jobs are over-time sensitive so that is a rarity, and the holidays are still the busiest time of the year, so no way they will give that up either.

Re: Do you get Christmas off & Do you like your commute?
Last year I had half day Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Earlier finish New Years and New Years Day off. This year had holiday time left and Im off from the 16th till the 29th.
Currently commute is 25-35 minutes, skytrain and two buses. Just been promoted and so beginning of Feb will be working from home, so no real commute to the office although I will spend parts of the day on the road. But a company car and not having to go into the office should be nice.

I would love to work from home, would be sweet...lol
Other then call centers which don't seem to pay very well for home positions, don't think there is much else out there for work from home.

I'm off from December 23rd to January 19th. Between accumulation of flex time and paid holidays (Christmas, Boxing Day and NY Day) I've managed 4 weeks off with taking only 12 days leave.
Yes, I love my commute. It's 50 minutes door to door which sounds a lot, but I live a 1 minute walk to the train station in my suburb and can walk from the station in the city to my office in 7 minutes so not bad at all. The man I'm seeing gets on my train a couple of stops after I do, so we get to sit together on the way to work and we always ride home together so it makes the time go that much faster.

Be careful what you wish for It can be mind-numbingly boring. I'd quite like to get out of the house a bit more, sometimes .

I get paid reasonably well - but I put in a lot of very unsocial hours.
(I don't work for a call centre either)

I have the option to work from home with my job, but I choose not to do it that often. I do it on the handful of days when I need to be around the house (deliveries, or when we moved into the new house for the carpet cleaner, etc) but it's really quiet, and can be very boring. There's something kind of nice about seeing your colleagues and going for coffee breaks and socializing a bit more.
I had a similar setup at my previous job, option to work from home as long as you didn't take the piss too much with it. I usually picked one day every two weeks to work from home to get some important stuff done with no distractions... my last job had a lot of "oh, can you pop into this meeting with me?" and "oh, can I send you this document for you to look at?" and such... yay consulting and project work! So one day every two weeks to just shut everyone else out was great, but I don't think I could do it on a daily basis, I'd go mental!

I have been working from home for years. I was hired by the (UK) company when I was already here. I hate it when I have to spend a few days in the London office.
Quite a few of my colleagues/subordinates in the UK work from home as much as they can.

Not having a study or other quiet place at home and two young kids means that it's often quieter in the office than at home. I do work from home upon occasion like yesterday when the Air Exchanger bloke was coming to service the unit. I also work from home in the evenings when I'm making up for time spent during the day on other things. For example I took Monday morning off to take my youngest daughter to speech and physio sessions at the hospital. I made that time up that evening. I like the flexibility of working in the office or at home when I need it.
