Re: Do you get Christmas off & Do you like your commute?
I'm working three days over Chrstmas, I usually work christmas or New Year but it's no big deal.
My commute is a 20minute rural drive. The worst commute I've had was from North London to south London, it didn't seem bad at the time

I just get the stat holidays off at work - Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day. Christmas Eve is usually just a half-day.
At my old company we would get one bonus holiday day, whatever day would give us a 5-day weekend, so usually it was the 24th or the 27th or something like that, depending on how Christmas fell on a given year.
My commute is decent. About 20 minutes in the morning, and about 20-30 minutes on the way home, depending how errands change my route. I tend to hit more traffic coming home in any case.
Mr Schnooks gets the same holidays as me, including usually a half-day on Christmas Eve, depending how busy they are. His commute is about an hour door to desk (10 minute drive to the train station, 30 minutes on the train, 10 minute walk from the train to his office, give or take a bit).

I'm not working Christmas, but will be working NYE for my former employer (hotel/restaurant). Offspring are doing the Christmas shenanigans with their dad this year, & I'm volunteering (cooking) at our local shelter.
My commute these days looks a lot like Siouxsie's, except I also feed the cats in those 2 minutes .
Over the years, my commutes have varied from a 3 minute walk to a 2 boats + minibus ride.

My construction site closes at 12pm Christmas eve and we open again on the on the 29th to the 31st again with half a day on the 31st. Open again on the 5th
2.5 mile walk to work in 37 min from where we live at present, but that will change in February as we move a bit further away.

I've got a temporary job that finishes Christmas Eve for me, then I'm unemployed. My sister is arriving on the 28th (she doesn't yet know) then I'm going for and Operation on the 7th and won't be able to work for 6 weeks. It's not what I though would be happening, unemployment and ops but hey ho. Goal for next year is to try to get out of retail.

I'm taking the 23-rd to the 29th off, then working a day and then not again til the 8th. If I don't work I don't get paid so I can't take the whole period off.
My commute is a whole 6 minutes in the car. Love it!

Working Xmas eve (day shift at one job then a night shift at another) and then working xmas day, Boxing Day, NYE and New Years day (all over night shifts)
I get the days off I suppose but can't drink too much and I have to find time to sleep and Skype friends and family in the UK.
Really sucks as we had a big group of people over for dinner last night and talking about NYE plans and then I was asked what I thought
It's good job they are paying overtime and I get to bank the stat as it would not be worth it.
My commute is 10 mins on the bus at 10:45pm or sky train downtown. Occasionally if the weather is bad I'll take a car2go to work

I usually get the mandated holiday pay the province requires, but since I just started this job, I won't be getting any holiday pay either, which doubly sucks....lol
I haven't been able to do anything for NYE in eons, working in the hotels for so many years as the main auditor, I always had to work to do the year end stuff which was a pain and too difficult for the relief auditors to figure out...lol
I don't know anyone other then my GF, so not like we had anything big planned, but she is a little irritated since she will be alone for 13 hours on Christmas day.

If I just have to pop in for a bit and the water is nice, I'll take a boat around as you can use the public moorage in Coal Harbour for up to three hours and the office is only a few blocks from there. Plus, you can put some good chill on, drop your lines and have a few bevvies as you make your way back.

Re: Do you get Christmas off & Do you like your commute?
well to be fair, a lot of it is from OT I did
But in my industry (nearly) everyone shuts down over Xmas, so we normally get 23-2 off anyway.
