Do you find Richard offensive?

Actually I wanted to use the shortened name of Richard (Dick) in the title but the mods would probably have changed it as could be construed offensive without any context to the title.

Well the precious snowflakes living in a Vancouver strata (condo) seem to think it is as they have blocked a franchise fish and chip restaurant called Moby Dick from opening in a space previously occupied by an Asian Fusion restaurant.
They stated that they find the word Dick offensive.

Vancouver strata blocks Moby Dick franchise from opening over 'offensive' name, lawsuit alleges - British Columbia - CBC News

Now looking at the signage and wording I find it very hard to equate that to the male appendage.
So I guess opening up a pub called The Dick Turpin is a no no or the following could not use their name on the premises

Dick Cheney, Dick Clark, Dick Van Dyke, Dick Butkus and others.

Me thinks they are over reacting.

We had Dick Turpin's Tavern in Bristol.

I'm sure we've all had spotted dick too.

One of my co-workers hates it when I call him Dick, (mostly because his name is James).

I just read the article and based on the headline about the logo was expecting something well controversial, but not so.

I once interviewed someone called Dick Dong. I suspect he wasn't a Richard but was carelessly transliterated.

On behalf of all mods everywhere I would like the record to show that we're offended by the OPs comments regarding our policing of the boards.

(Might not be talking for everyone but definitely for myself). ;)

I don't have that skill set. My expertise () is for large upside down countries only.

I really would like to be amused by this thread but I find it scary. No doubt the local library has already been approached to remove Mr Melville's classic from the shelves and replace it with yet another copy of some self righteous tome of absolutely no significance to anybody.

The fact that a group of ignorant busybodies have persuaded some weak minded suits to their way of thinking speaks volumes for the quality of officialdome.

Now if they'd wanted to call it 'Mcfish Mcfishie' I could understand it.
