Default do i just hammer the nails in?

OK

Home alone. Flederman at work. I have some metal stars that I want on the siding of the house.

In single woman world I would get some little nails and a hammer, though a shoe often does the trick if you can't find a hammer. I have nails, long thin white ones with little ridges. I have hammer. Shall I just hammer them into the siding??

I used to do this sort of thing all by myself but Flederman usually has a more technical approach than my shoe and hammer method.

Ruddy nails just bounced off. Maybe I need a bigger hammer or a sharper nail?

Bounce off as the plastic bowed in, nothing behind it so I can give it a thwack. Well something must be behind it, such as the house.

If you stick a nail through plastic siding you will puncture the membrane and let water in. It may be bouncy if you are not hammering against a wall stud, even so I would not put a nail through siding. Get some self adhesive hooks.

Hammering nails through your siding is an excellent way of keeping the inside of your house nice and moist.

It's in cottage country. You can do that with your house in cottage country, in fact it's expected.
