Employ!!?

Eunuchs only - positive discrimination in action?

But how will it work? suppose you have equal candidates, a black person, a white person, a person with a disability, an old person, a man, a woman?? So does this mean you dont have to chose the deaf old white woman (me) and can choose the young man?? bah humbug??

Am I missing the point of this legislation altogether?

I think you are missing the point because Canada is ultimately moving towards being an Asian country.

It is a crap system and we all know it should be the best person for the job. But in today's shady dealing, old boy, not what you know or who, but what you know about who climate, it will always be on a face fit, will you sleep with me basis.....promotions and employment opportunities. Or dare I say it, just being the right gender today in the UK isn't enough.

Same applies in Canada.

I have noticed over the last 20 years that the head of human resources in many large public companies and government departments is a woman. Presumably just as qualified for the job as a man but this ensures that many job vacancies in these same companies will go to women. These companies will boast or proudly proclaim in their annual report that they are well on their way to achieving 'gender equality' in the work place. That is code for simply hiring more women.

I can see why this has been done and is commendable for righting past wrongs.

But will the pendulum ever swing the other way?

Or can we look forward to the era where the men will stay home, wash the dishes, and raise the kids? :p

Its simple, in the interests of "equality" they want one female exec and HR is the least important seat on the board....

I hate to say this but feel I have to......

Are many of the HR senior positions filled by women as they have a more natural bias towards the outward, touchy, feelly stuff required of personnel management. Have you ever noticed, they rarely interview alone....other members of the panel usually include a man.

Also, HR is only ever used for Hiring, Firing and Disputes....so when an employee needs the services of HR, they are either trying to create a good impression which women tend to be more easily convinced....like to see the good in people; Firing....well, sometimes often need to smooth over a past turbulent appraisal which bought them to the top of the pile....and employees tend to believe a woman wouldn't lie; and then there are the disputes....a woman can be a shoulder to cry on, or a diplomat.....

These are by no means female only traits and I am aware that there are many male HR execs out there.....but its a bit like giving birth....unless you are a seahorse....somethings are just better to be done by women same as there are some things which are better left to men....

This is certainly true of private sector companies but having worked in local government, shall we say they may appear whiter than white on the outside...but its a very dirty shade of black from within ...:sneaky:

Looked up and I was on the big screen feeding Evie - !!!!!!

Just as a curious aside (almost) came across this picture just now whilst doing something else. The point being, this was during a family lunch out at The Old Spaghetti Factory in Vancouver.....no one even noticed my youngest was enjoying her lunch too...so it doesn't have to be tits out everywhere....I suggest that those who do display all have a curious need to show everyone that that are doing the right thing. I nursed my children because I wanted to, and wanted to build that bond, and give them the best start in life....and I would have been very unkind to anyone who dared to try to stop me.

There are also inventions such as this....The Hooter Hider...

Indeed - once you have the hang of it most people dont even realise yr feeding - but those 1st 2 weeks were quite hard, so tended to stay out of the way!

I can remember at a job interview almost 20 years ago being asked if I was planning on having any children in the near future! This was for a very big well known supermarket ......... and I wasn't allowed to wear trousers. Can you imagine that question being asked now, I know I was quite annoyed at it being asked then (though from a business point of view I can understand why).

As for the plans by Labour, it's one of their many crazy ideas that is sending the UK to rack and ruin!

Interesting thought. Probably not, I guess you just have to diversify and sleep with your boss whatever sex he is! Otherwise in blighty you might offend his/her human rights and get sued
