Re: Digital fixations?
I've just de-activated my Facebook page for the duration of the summer holidays. I only signed up for it once I knew we were moving to Canada, and have 'justified' using it (in my mind) as 'keeping in contact'. I look at it far too many times a day. I know more about what is going on where I used to live, than where I live now. I think I am also a 'victim' of the reinforcing nature of my news feed. I'm not going to start reading the Daily Mail, just a few more books.

I was thinking that, where's PornHub? The internet is for laughing, porning and shopping in that order. If you can find a funny porno set in a supermarket then you can get all three at once. |

Re: Digital fixations?
Social media and instagram are separate?
Facebook own instagram. |
Re: Digital fixations?
Facebook own a broad spectrum of companies, from social media to UAVs and facial recognition technology.
I regard instagram as different to social media. I think instagram is more a photo sharing/hosting site. I regard social media as having a news feed and messenging capability. But admittedly the boundaries are blured. |

So., who has voted and NOT ticked the 'online forums'. I always thought that BE was an online forum...:sneaky:

Really? Tell that to any teen or pre-teen. Instagram is the social media and messaging platform of choice for all those whose parents won't allow them unfettered access to SnapChat.
Aside from this and one or two other forums, I use Facebook primarily to I checked out the actual definition of social media and it appears you guys are correct, my interpretation of what social media is was different to the actual definition. The definition is: 'websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.' Which by that definition is a lot of sites/applications. Like a man in orthopaedic shoes.. I stand corrected. |
Re: Digital fixations?
Yes technically IG is social media, but mainly, I suspect amongst the youth. It's not a full on social media experience from what I can tell. I like it for the photo shares and a few live stories.
I made the poll because I watched a story on digital detox on BBC. I am starting to think that even constantly checking the news etc is a kind of digital addiction which has crept in on some of us of a certain age. |
